White Widow Small cabinet grow problems

Hey guys, first time growing and I'm starting to have a few problems.
My setup- Walmart sterilite grow cabinet, 125 watt CFL 6400k bulb, bathroom fan used as exhaust mounted on top of the cab, 2 WW plants in 3 gallon buckets (I think), mylar covered on all areas, water cups stored in cabinet to raise humidity, temp during the day- 82* with 41% humidity

As you can tell from the pictures below, the left plant has grown much more than the one on the right. Reason being is because I planted that one a week later. I originally planted two at the same time. About a week into germination only one made it out so I decided to germinate another.

The problem I am having is the one on the right is lighter in overall color and is starting to get fragile and yellow in areas. I am using no nutes, which I should be using. Just water. What nutes do y'all recommend and how much?

Also I'm having a carbon filter flow problem. I have the exhaust bathroom fan and two spare 150mm cpu fans. Im trying to put a coffee can carbon filter system attached to the end of the exhaust ducting but it can't push enough air through. Im trying to think how I can use my cpu fans to help pull the air through.

I can only recommend what I use. Stay away from cannabis specific nutrients it's just a massive rip off.

I use baby bio original for veg, and tomorite tomato feed for flower, extremely happy with the results.

Get yourself another bulb make it 125w warm white ,(2700k) to ensure correct internodel spacing, and balanced growth,
I'd be adding 30% perlite to those pots to assist drainage and dilute these hot soil affects
now a great time to flush to avoid that nute burn
avoid any nutes for the next 2 weeks

rite nows good to my blog:
https://www.rollitup.org/Journal/Entry/flush-baby-flush.30160/

cpu fans are best used to circulate the air
not actually suck and blow any volume
bathroom fans are still best

Ok ill definitely look into getting another bulb for flowering stage.

I can't get my setup right! If I put my homemade carbon filter on the temps rise like crazy. Im guessing the fan isn't powerful enough to move the air efficiently out and through the carbon. Here is pics of how my exhaust and filter is setup (carbon is inside the 4in to 6in expander)

I have two passive intakes holes I cut into near the bottom of the cabinet. opposite sides.
I also have a weak cpu fan pulling air from the bottom of the 4-6 expander to try and help with air flow

And by the end of the exhaust tube you have less pressure, than by the end of the fan, try that, but in my expirience, those bathroom fans are good just for pulling air, not for filtering it.
Anyways, you are in veg, you don't need filter by this time, and try ozone filter, but it by the end of the exhaust tube.

Im not too sure if I understand your first sentence. What should I try differently? I am still in veg but believe it or not they are getting pretty stinky already. I think its time to go into flowering stage though. Its been 38 days since germination.

Arent ozone filters really expensive? I just need to re do my whole carbon filter setup again :(

Also remember that your passive intake has to be twice the surface area of the exhaust, not just twice the size. That should be looked at before messing with the carbon. Otherwise, rising temps are speaking the loudest, telling you the in/ex is too small. Not a big deal, trial and error etc etc.

If it were me and I wanted to f around and see if it worked........... I would build a tube, like you have, but with the two CPU fans on either side of the carbon inside the tube, blowing towards the exhaust, then hook it up inline with the exhaust fan you have and see if that can help pull more CFM thru the carbon.

Most pc fan's have terrible static pressure [aka push/pull] and you are kind of limited with using them as such, but it never hurts to tinker :peace:

Ok so I just started flowering them. I need to get this carbon filter figured out asap.
So if you were in my situation with my cabinet, how would you do your setup perfectly? Im thinking about getting a 4in duct booster and running it before the CF to boost that static pressure in there. If that doesn't work then I'm willing to spend up to $100 to get a really nice legit fan and filter setup. Do you think the duct booster would work or should I just spend the money and get a pro setup?

I wouldn't even mess around with a duct booster, in most cases, they aren't up to the task either. They are decent for pushing air thru a line already having air being pushed through it, but just over long distances.

Just get your intake [if passive] 2x the surface area of however big a fan you go for 4"/6".

I don't know the the size of your space, but a 190cfm filter /4" fan combo, can usually be had for $100 or so.

I personally like Soler and Palau fans, but they start around $75 for a 4 inch.

Yes, run 24 hours. In most situations. It brings in fresh 02 which plants uptake in small amounts at night when not photosynthesizing.

Of course it helps keep humidity in check, that is usually #1 reason it is left on 24/7. I have at times switched my timer to turn the fan off in 1/2 hour increments every 3 notches or so on the timer. Always trying to save even a little bit of electricity, If i can.
Although my ideal conditions at night would be a slight temp drop 5-10 degrees F and a rise in nighttime humidity. [Hence the fans]

Hope that helps a lil :peace:

Firstly I gotta say that plant on the right looks perfectly gorgeous! Well healthy & bushy!

So is bit odd how one on right is lagging behind so much - I'd certainly bet it likely hasn't rooted half as well as its sister. Not sure on reason why since they both been raised the same, possibly could just be runt seed maybe?

It certainly seems like it needs food more so I would guess its not exploited the full soil area yet like its sister. Definitely give it a feed and maybe even make up a light foliar spray & give it a drench. Also, maybe give a very light, quarter feed to left hand one too as it seems to be running nice & optimium so it'd good to keep it lightly topped up if its also had no nutes, rather than waiting for first signs of deficiency's to show.

And as for ur fan/filter questions, I'd personally say it'd be worth spunking the $100 u say u can on best shop/online bought one u can find to nip any hassle in the bud early. WW totally fcuking reeks, and if u say they smelling now in veg then wait till flowering kicks in! I'm a big fan of DIY but it might be best to be safe & pay the price now for this grow, and then sort out a shit hot DIY set up for next grow?

So 2x the surface area of my 4in exhaust fan? Would that be like two 2x2in cut holes on the side of the box? Oh sorry the size of my space is 35in height, 25in width, 18in depth. Which fan specifically do you like from S&P? I couldn't find it on the catalog.
Ok once I get this fan setup I will definitely keep them on 24/7.

You think the one on the right looks healthy?? Hmm I thought the one on the left looked better. Is the lighter color leaves better? What nutes or feed do you recommend for that? Is there a feed I could buy at Lowes or Home Depot? Yea I think I want to just go ahead and purchase a nice fan and filter setup. But which setup though. There is so many and I would like it to be really quiet and easy to mount because my box is kinda hard to mount stuff. Ohh man, can a nice 4in fan and filter setup get totally rid of the WW smell during flowering?

Here is where you need math :)

Area of a circle is Pi times Radius Squared. Radius for a refresher is half the diameter of your circle.

So. the equation 3.14*[r*r]
A 4 inch hole equals roughly 12.5 sq. in = [3.14*[2*2]

The best thing would be to make two, 4 inch holes for your intake. Or anything that equals about 25 sq inches of surface area.

So, using two, 2 inch holes would equal 3.14 sq. inches apiece [6.28"], leaving you well short of doubling your exhaust diameter. You would need about Eight, 2 inch holes to equal two, 4 inch holes.

Also for instance, Three, 3 inch holes equals 21+ sq. inches. Its a little less than just two 4 inch holes. [3.14 * [1.5inchesx1.5 inches] = 7.1 sq. inches.]

Now an 8 inch diameter hole is way overkill too, because it is just over 50 sq. inches, being about 4x the surface area of a 4 inch diameter.
31.4 * [4inches * 4 inches] = 51.06......

Being oversized isn't necessarily a bad thing, later on if you upgrage to bigger light and need more air, you already have the capability. For now, you can slow down your Exhaust fan, although it might be ideal sizing for a carbon filter end reduction too!
:peace:

Soler Palau Td-100 $67......is a good version.....the TD-100X runs about $15 more for about 30 cfm more.....

Thank you so much for all that math and brain work haha, you didn't have to do all that. But I appreciate it. Wow thats a nice exhaust fan, now is there a nice carbon filter you would pair with it? Also look at the questions and answers for the S&P fan, it looks like it doesnt come with a normal wall socket plug. I really hate messing with all the AC/DC adapters and stuff. Can I just take an old lamp cord and cut off the end to where it plugs in the lamp and splice it into the fan then just plug it in the wall?

If u go on ebay they have 4" inline kits that come with carbon filters for under 100$
I built one similar to yours using a coffee can but it too didnt get enough airflow. So i removed the can and bought a cheap pencil holder from the dollar store. Its all mesh, dropped my pantyhose full of carbon in it and the temps dropped ten degrees. And no smell.

I do agree with abi that the duct line booster is a waste of time and money. I got one free from a friend and i only use it when the lights are on for a lil extra push but it doesnt really do much.

If u need a pic of my cf jus let me know

I tried that as well, just could not get the setup right at all man. Any nice reliable quiet fan setup you would recommend? Yea I think I'm done with DIY cf stuff until next grow.

I only use 4" pc fans too.
I have one 4" pc fan blowing out with a short piece of duct with the booster in it then my cf.
I hve two 4" pc fans blowing air in the bottom of my cabinet.
A 10" fan blows across my plant tops and kinda up towards my exhaust.
With a 400watter on my temps are around 90 so i just turned my light down to 250 and now im about 80.
