White Widow taking a turn for the worst?

Hey everyone,
Got a auto widow here that has been growing exceptionally well until yesterday. All the sudden I noticed brown leaf tips on brand new leaves. They are growing in brown and dried. Some areas still look great, but some not so much. Its very weird. Now today, some leaves look like they are completely dying. Very limp and have a rugged look about them. All the sick plant troubleshooting stickies point to a Zinc deficiency. I dunno though.

She is in 3 gal hempy and on the verge of flowering. About 6 weeks old from seed. I've been watering her once a day. She has been soaking up around 250 watts of CFL goodness. Watering with PH'd 5.8-6.0 tap water. Runoff is reading at a 6.0 average. Can you identify the deficiency?:peace:

The last time I grew White Widow the one thing I noticed was that it did NOT like much in the way of Nutriants compared to the other strains I grew. I found it was very easy to overfeed. Watering once a day? You should let the pots get dry befor watering again. Its entirely possible that overwatering is the culprit here. If you have been keeping the soil wet all the time then your roots may be suffering as well ( root rot?) . Carefully check the condition of the roots, they should be a nice white or light tan color, not brown or otherwise discolored.
In soil, it is best to check when a plant needs water by the weight of the pot. A dry pot is much lighter than a damp pot. You can even let the plants get a bit 'droopy' from lack of water befor watering again, it won't hurt them a bit.

Tell us about your hempy setup. how big is the perlite? what are you feeding them? hempy's get root rot pretty easy.

@Randm Thanks for the advice. Yea I heard that WW can be picky about nutes as well. Technically she is a WidowRyder. Cross between a WW and LR2. But the breeder said she inherits pretty much all traits of a WW but doesn't get so tall. Since I'm growing in a hempy bucket I don't have to worry about soil or overwatering. I water her once a day because every morning the res is bone dry. She drinks like a fish.

@burr I'm running a 3 gal Hempy bucket with 80/20 Perlite/Vermiculite. The perlite is a nice mix of chunky and small. I'm feeding her with osmocote plus nutes which are mixed in with the media. I've used this stuff before and its pretty much nothing short of amazing. But like Randm mentioned above, the WW genes in her might not like these nutes. She was growing like crazy for the first 5 weeks. Super green and healthy...then all the sudden going down hill. I hope its not root rot cuz I have no idea how to check that out with a hempy?

I wonder if your time release osmocote has petered out. I've heard of folks growing this way ( hempy and osmocote) and wondered how the plants get by w/o several micro nutes. ( osmocote is lacking in micro's).

I would check the ppm of your runoff water to see if your still getting nutes. I bet you need some fresh food, and try to find something with all 16 micro/macro nutes.

Osmocote has more macros than I thought.

Burrr you might be a genius! I never really even thought of that. Yes I use osmocote plus for the sole purpose of it having all those micros/macros. Most generic CR ferts do not carry any essential macros. I've experienced nute burn and some deficiencies in the past and my current problem doesn't really resemble that at all. If anything she looks like she's unhealthy due to starvation and maybe a small deficiency. I'll check the ppm of the runoff and get back to you. Thanks again! huge help.

Hey man I was looking at your pics and you are using a white bucket. Have you used these before with success? If not that may be your problem, try using black duck tape on your bucket so your roots aren't getting penatrated by light!!!! Good luck man
