Terpenes are volatile organic compounds. They break down over time with exposure to the surrounding atmosphere. When I dry trim my buds smell better and the smell is more potent. Same applies to flavor. I've side by sided the process and the results were not close. If you have a drying space with absolute control over every variable you may be able to achieve great results wet trimming, but for me it isn't even a debate.
I've not done it side by side but I notice no difference. I mostly grow cheese type plants so they stink regardless. I use organic everything and flush so always smokes smoothes tastes good. I have a tent for drying and a 4 in 1 Aircon

It can and I'm sure someone here does it.
Maybe they lowered humidity really low or dried in a warm environment like a boiler cupboard. I only do that with test buds.

I would water and chop after the dark cycle, no real need for extended dark period IMO.
So just the normal dark cycle? My lights are off from noon-4pm, so I'm about to water now and then tomorrow right when the lights kick on harvest?
Yes, that would work.
I used to do extended dark period before harvest but I don't think it did much, and I quit doing it after getting some bud rot, wasn't much but I figure while it was dark it had spread some, might as well just chop so no time to spread if it's there.
