Why not just save yourself the trouble, anxiety and paranoia and get yourself a med card? Costs about $100-$160 to get a prescription, and it grants you permission to cultivate/grow 6 mature or 12 immature plants. Not only does this grant you access to some dope medical weed if you find yourself a decent, reputable dispensary, but it also serves as a sort of "insurance" - if the Police ever stop you, whether it be at a traffic stop and they "smell" weed (i.e. probable cause/reason for suspicion), or for some reason the police come to your door, Heaven forbid.
As long as your paperwork is in order, your local police shouldn't care - if anything, they want the big seizures, provided by major drug busts (we're talking kilo bricks of hash/weed here) or the seizure of properties from "illegal" dispensaries. They are not going to waste valuable energy, resources and time on one individual growing a handful of plants for their own personal use. Now, if you're selling or advertising the sale of Cannabis, you're risk factor probably climbs up quite a bit.
