I left this for its own post because it deserves it. It is possibly one of the darkest and most depressing stories Ive read/watched in a long time. I should point out that there is lots of violence and female nudity so its not for the squeamish. That having been said its not the violence or nudity that makes it an extremely dark show. It deals a lot with human nature and yes, love. There is an anime and a manga. The manga came first but the anime stays extremely true to the manga up to a point. There are two climaxes to the story and the anime deviates/ends at the first one.
I highly recommend both. There is no official English translation of the manga but here is the scanlation. There is an official English translation of the anime. I think ADV did it. The show is 13 episodes long with a bonus episode which fits between episodes 10 and 11 as far as the timeline of the show.
Again I cannot recommend this highly enough but approach with extreme caution. Also if you can you should watch the show in one sitting. It was absolutely captivating for me so I couldnt stop watching but it might make your head explode (or implode).
Sorry for the rant, I just watched the anime and read the manga again recently so Im still obsessing over it.
