Whoa, I got weird mini-grasshoppers in my closet

Plant has been planted for 15 days now....I used Scott's Premium Potting Soil....

Anyways I just went in to check on her and there was this little weird green grasshopper looking thingie just hangin on a leaf catchin' some rays....

Then I notice two more of them just hangin' out on top of the soil....

What the heck are these strange creatures? :shock:

I just went back in there after 5 minutes....there was a new grasshopper hanging out on a leaf.....And I also saw some black bug about 1/8" long with incandescent wings....Is this normal to have various insect colonies in your soil and in your closet ? I have also seen small flying things too.....

Now there is 4 of them on it....They seem to be some kind of bug that can change color to the color of the plant....Cause not all of them are green color...But the one's that are green look to be almost the same green as the plant....

Thoughts anyone? thanks :peace:

take a pic of them it will help us help you better....but anyways most bugs are bad...but the little black bugs could be gnats, which can become a HUGE pain, try putting an inch of sand on top of your soil to stop the soil-borns....as for the grasshoppers....post a pic and maybe someone with better experience with them can take over

Alright, well I got two pics...The camera sucks cause you can't get close and focus in on small things...But basically look on that bigger piece of mulch near the center of the pics, and you'll see a skinny little green insect....This is what I have, anyone know what they are ? thanks

I checked in on it again...There are also some of these that are yellow with black dots or stripes on them...

They are very small maybe around 1/4" long and maybe a 1/8" or smaller wide....

Any help here would be appreciated...thanks

I would have to say no....I can't see any antennas on them at all...And what legs I can see seem to be really short, almost can't even see them... really need a magnifying glass to see their legs....Seems kinda like they have tiny legs that go str8 down....their bodies are almost square like a box car......

They are also hanging under the leaves as well as on top....There are still some hanging out in the soil too.

either way they look like leaf eaters so they need to be had rid of, if u ger ANY more of them black bugs, try that sand or ppl around here like that Diatomaceous earth. where do u have them located indoors or out?

You might try looking up leaf hoppers on Google. I've found similar looking bugs on my plants in the past . and it turned out to be a hopper they like sucking the juice from the leaves and you normally will notice white spots were they have feed.... I don't know if that will be of any help but i figured I'd chime in with my 2 cents... .

They def are leafhoppers,they will eat ur leaves slowly,I kill them by sneaking a hand under the leaf its on and then quickly clap my other hand over it and splat its dead,they seem to reproduce slowly,so this hand method works well for me,no need for pesticides with this insect,they only eat a bit,barely noticible,good luck,they are quite quick to catch.

Keep an eye out for spider mites too. Look under your leaves for one or two specks of black dots. Probably 30x smaller then a grain of salt.

It really depends how bad you're infested.,try Neem oil, use sparingly or a product by ecosmart called garden insect killer..the leaf-hoppers life cycle is only 1 mo. but they like to lay there eggs bottom of the stem.so be on the look out .... they are a pain till end of august in my neck of the woods.. hope this helps good luck ..

Oh man I am going to have to get a magnifying glass now and check for those mites....Those leaf hoppers are just one of many various bugs in that closet...Other things are flying around, and there are other critters in the soil too.
