Why all the arguments over LED vs HPS ?

Another note if you do decide to ever add uv add it slow at first like hardening a plant off to go outdoors I just set my timer for short intervals at first and gradually build up. Good luck with your led search I love mine so far.

I have been readin about uv supplementation for a few years now. Even ed rosenthal showed it increased thc in his old book.

I compared an open reflector Phillips 315 cmh all last year. Although that is the only boosted uv I have used.

However. I have found that genetics and a stable growroom and good gardening can make more of a difference in flavor and perceived potency.

And frost. This is Hortilux super hps 600w grown.

Uvb can boost the thc but it doesn’t boost other canabanoids to my knowledge. I think the whole “recipe” of canabanoids and terpenes in the flower is more important than just the thc content.

Also. The genetics I grow were bred under hps. Maybe hps can bring out the breeders vision better?

I agree about dialing other things in I have just read a lot of the studies and testimonials on uvb and it’s compelling from a scientific POV. And same strains I ran without are definitely better with. Some of it is just plain old different strokes for different folks. Happy growing.

I spent 300$ for 2 300w leds . They did awesome during veg , but I'm not impressed with the flowering. I now realize I must invest more like ( 900$-1200$) to get my desired results. I ask around but it's always the same thing " leds suck blah, blah ,blah" use HPS but the only valid reason I see is because it's cheap. I can't diy ( my diy scrog took me 4ever) so I know I can't build a light. This shouldn't be a argument when the person asking knows what they want , just not sure which company they should go with.
What were the results you were looking for?

I myself only use digital ballasts but in far corners that don't get to much light I use a couple of 300 watters of led. It does help.

I didn't realize this was an old thread. Glad to hear you went with hlg. Quality stuff. I know you don't want to diy, but consider hiring a friend to put it together. You easily could have 3 lights of equal to the 550s quality and have cash left over. Cool thread, nice to see them discussed without all the vitriol and screaming about antiquated blurples.

Double thanks...... at times things went a bit left on this thread.

I’m satisfied with the light, I also like the warranty that comes with pre-assembled units. The diy option wasn’t made for me lol.

You don't really need a warranty with a DIY light since if something goes wrong with it you will know how to fix it after building it.

People have preferences and like to argue why one is better then the other. I used to use HPS and now use COBs. They both grow plants well. That's what I know.
Which type of LEDS are you using? If you don't mind sharing.
Why don’t u look up cob shop .net they have cobs that plug straight into the wall .. A 4x4 tent kit is only 4-500$ why spend thousands... Also no DIY just plug and play

I was undecided at the time but eventually chose HLG , not into building anything
( I may break a nail or something ) so I just got the 550 ready to go. I wasn’t worried about cost just effectiveness. :)
