why am i not getting a better yield?

Hi all, this is my second grow.I've just harvested my crop of ten white widow that had been drying for a week and i've only got 16 ounces off of all of them.I'm well p***** off!!
I grew them all from seed by dutch passion(double the price of the cheese seeds i had on my first grow) in a 7ft by 4ft by 6ft grow tent under 2 x 600 watt air cooled lights of which i used MH bulbs for veg and HPS bulbs for flowering. The tent has excellent ventilation in and out(6inch fans)and is being supplied with fresh air from outside,I've also got four 15 inch fans in each corner of the tent circulating air around the tent. For the first three weeks of the grow they were in six inch pots and then I transplanted them into 18 litre pots in a premixed Dutch growing medium with extra perlite and clay pebbles at the bottom for drainage. The temperature in the tent ranges from 78 to 86 degrees fahrenheit and the RH is usually around the 45% mark but often goes up to 75% after watering.I germinated them under a 6 tube flourescent grow light and after two weeks put the ten of them under one of the main lights only until they got bigger.I vegged them for six weeks until they started to show their sex.I used Biogrow veg nutes right up until 2 weeks into flower and then added the flowering nutes on top as per the manufacturers chart but at half strength first and then building up to the correct amount.I pruned away the bottom leaves two weeks into flower and i also topped a couple of them which did increase the yield very slightly on those two only.I let the plants go to nine weeks flower until the trichomes were cloudy and then harvested.I dried them in another grow tent in the dark at 75 degrees fahrenheit with two small fans circulating the air.I only had one drama with an overnuting about 4 weeks into the grow which made the leaves look like claws but other than that i thought i'd done everything right.
My first grow was under exactly the same conditions but i grew 20 cheese plants of which my yield was only 18 ounces in total.
I keep reading on the forums that some growers are getting unbelievable yields of up to 16oz per plant so i can't work out where i'm going wrong.I was really optimistic about this second grow,i thought I'd go for a renowned seed bank with a plant that had an excellent reputation.Where the f*** am i going wrong,I'm totally disheartened?
Can any experienced grower out there give me some advice for increasing my yield or tell me where i'm going wrong.

first off, you are only growing under 600s, 16oz is pretty good.
you want one pound plants, grow them big and under 1000s.
with experience comes better yields too.
when i began, i wasn't getting 4 to 8 oz per plant.

Yea I'd be real happy if that was one on my 1st real grows. You avg over a oz per plant. I'd start practicing some LST on your girls next go around. And maybe you hacked off too many leaves. Keep the fan leaves and only prune the lower bud sites so more energy goes towards the other bud sites left on the plant.

too many plants not enough light. LOL The widow is one of my specialties, keep her soil kinda dry. lollipop her and make sure you use tomato cages on her. I average about 4-5 per widow. not a high yeilder but she is a potent bitch. a little unknown trick with her is to leave her in the dark for 3 days at the end of her cycle. the crystals will be amazing. She will look droopy and sad but you will have a huge smile everytime you smoke. while she dark water her like normal because she will still need the flush.

a pound off 2 600s... no co2... not stable temps... definitely not a stable humidity.. noob grower... dude give yourself a high 5. if you want more per plant... grow bigger plants.. you dont average your yield by plant number, you average it by gram per watt. a pound off 1200 watts is NOT BAD. bout the same as my yield my first run, and i wasnt growing in a tent. curious as to what you were expecting? 2 pounds first try? if growing was easy.. everyone would do it

I get 12 oz off of 4 plants with one 400w CMH light...I veg under a 400w..and I find that once I hit 3 weeks of veg I get an oz for every veg week...I get about an oz per plant if I do 12/12 from clone, which I have done a few times...I never get more than that though...so 3 weeks veg=3 oz bud... 6weeks veg=6 finished oz...I guess I am happy with it..I do a lot of training during the veg time I give the plants...anyway regardless of strain that is what I get...

Also u do not top your plant in flowering, u top a week or 2 before u enter flowering so your plant does not have to waste energy healing but making bud :) u could also use additives like purple maxx which pushes more budding and tehnu can use gravity to make it nice a dense :). Also if want some big grows as well u can try hydro, it is more finicky but if u get it right u can make some serious bud :) do u have a picture of your plant before you harvested and even midway threw flowering

Here's some pics of some of them about 6 weeks into flower.Apologies for the HPS
Yea Mikmike,I reckon I might have a bash at some hydroponics but like you say it's a bit finicky.

yeah man you just have to start figuring out how to train your ladies, more terminal buds to an extent = more weight

you won't be able to fit as many plants in the space, but if plant #'s are a concern like a lot of us you'll be getting the same if not more weight from less plants with training.

you should be gettin more than that.
too many plants i'd imagine.
i do 8 plants under 2 600w hps and pull in 30 oz
i use coco substrate and canna a+b no bloom nutes at all so would prob get more if did.
instead of cramming plants in hoping for more. try 4 per light. easier to look after and prob produce more bud.
or tryt this way for more plants in less space.

i don't do 12-12 from seed but there's a thread on here should help you out.
i'd just put your 3 mothers under 1 1000w if they're big plants.
or keep your mothers and put 9 babys and try the lst technique i posted, keeps them small so get plenty of light and just main colas no shitty popcorn nugs :-)

What's your veg time?

i do 4 weeks veg with no pruning. i usually top 4 and leave 4 to see how they differ from the untopped ones. some plants like to be topped others dont.
i'm going to try the lst method in the link next time as popcorn nugs suck! + you can cram more plants in.
have you tried coco as a medium? canna nutes.
personally i think it's a lot easier than soil and always produces well.

pics arn't working and never trim fan leaves!!!!! they are the power for the plant and they store energy for flowering.

I trim fan leaves only at 14days of flower and just the large fans. Leave the medium/small size. Then it's only cleaning up the dead/dying leaves. Let's light down to the smaller lower shoots. By trimming you do stress them but 4 days later there back to normal and with better light.
