Why are Americans afraid of government?

A lot of the middle-east has turned its back on the government and rebelled and won, yet the states have an "occupy" movement that is laughed at and doesnt really do much.

My question is, why are so many Americans afraid of government? If the 1% is truly destroying the lives on the 99%, isnt that enough to rebel against the government? Or is occupy just a lazy form of, "well at least i am doing something and I want to be peaceful while my house gets taken away from me"

More so lazyness over fear i think,So many are use to the way things are and think/believe that it will change somehow for the better without raising a finger. In truth the Gubberment wont listen until something is done that they cannot ignore. Its the lack of unity as well,So many are fed up yet will not endanger what they already have, which to say the least is a joke, which i dont mean offensively,But its like i live in this house which is on property being taxed along with everything else i buy, getting poorer along the way while getting what i need to live just barely into debt from it,then i get into an accident and theres more money gone surging me further into debt so i get a loan to pay it off because my education level never met with a degree so i dont have a job that pays alot,Go to work pay it off.work it off while dying on the inside,I have no will to fight the gubberment because i feel so used up mentaly-OK this rant is in all probability the average American mindset,U see where it goes and possibly why so many arent fighting the Government like they should. Its almost like we need someone to William Wallace for the American people to go against the Governmant,U know what i mean?

Because the occupy groups are financed by those who want the U.S.A. to become the U.S.S.A. and that includes all of the D of C. They want to bring civil unrest across the nation. They want to squash the middle class. Look back at history to see the future of the USA. From a Republic to a democracy to a dictatership. From bondage to freedom to apathy to bondage again.

Equal misery for all. Expect for the political elite. They must be rewarded for how hard they work and how much they care for the little people.

lol, another Braveheart fan? I really like the movie even though Mel is crazy, but I guess who in Hollywood isnt lol?

Anyways, almost everyone i know is in the same boat. I have a bunch of friends in their late 20's still living at home, mainly because they cant find a job that pays well or has any benefits. It wasnt the same like their parents where after highschool you went out and found a good job almost instantly.

The true 99% are those of us who go to work every day, do our best to be good mothers and fathers and treat our fellow man with respect. We are charitable, believe in the free market, non-crony capitalism ... and we love freedom and liberty.

America was born of revolution ... a revolution against an over reaching King. Why do we fear government? Because its in our DNA.

And by the way, the OWS groups? They are the one percent that are the parasites. Look at them ... they shit and piss on public property. They throw firebombs at the police. They have no respect for the rule of law.

I think a few well placed rifle shots would end this anarchist drivel.

You wanna know why Americans are afraid of government? Well first of all the bottom 25% of college graduates tend to go into government service, so right off the bat you have all the morons running things, that alone should scare the bejeezus out of anyone. Hell there are actual real politicians who believe an island can capsize if you put too many people on one side of it. These people are molding laws to govern you and they don't even understand 3rd grade science. Secondly, the amount of money it is costing the tax payer to run things is getting worse and worse every year, people no longer bat a lash at $500 hammers and $16 muffins anymore. Wasteful wasteful government , promising the moon but only delivering moldy green cheese.

While I agree with your assertions, I do not think that the majority of OWS is a bunch of freeloading hippies bent on destruction. Of course there are some of those elements, but I think the majority of them are just confused young people who sense something is very wrong with the world but just cannot put their finger on the cause of it all.

Ok then, a few long bursts from a .50 caliber machine gun.

I'm sure you would disperse the crowd, but you'd have a rebellion on your hands.

But, realistically, I can see people just hiding in their homes, afraid.

Edit: Btw I don't think the protesters should be shot, that's crazy talk.

Good point. We talk about the land of the free and the bold but we cringe when we get a letter from the IRS and Heaven forbid they or any gov agent pay us a visit.

Right, and I agree with you. But, why are they confused as to what the problem is? If we were to explain to them that their government is corrupt, over-reaching and hindering free market liberties, they wouldn't believe us. From what I can see, they are calling for more government regulations to hinder the free markets even further.

Most people become confused because they listen to the television or radio to give them the news and to tell them what to think.

one would think its the size of it..

around here, if i was particularily pissed at a politician, i could just make an appointment and go punch him (not that it happens lol, mostly get eggs and crap thrown at them in the street)

or just ring the bell on the presidents house and have a chat..

but the american government, is ..basically, the government of 50 countries (or is it 52 now?)

thats huge.

and so far removed from the people, that, well, it becomes very difficult to even begin to think about how to influence that.

its, like

if i not only did have to contend with reaching the president (whos totally in the pay of corporate interests and therefore unreachable anyway (and actually in our case its called a priminister, the presidents mostly for show)

but if the president was just a governor, a one voice out of many at the real government.

how the heck am i gonna influence that?

well, im not only gonna have to influence the people of my state (which is basically a country)

but also the other states (into at least a majority)

against the central government.

so, its not exactly something that most people jump into (lol, imagine trying to change or influence a one world government then..)

the sheer size of everything is intimating.

this is a rather thoughtless argument on it's face. I don't see anyone in the occupy movement that wants to "squash" the middle class - I see the right wishing to do this with it's attacks on unions, it's personizaton of corporations and its defense of the 1 percent who can indeed destroy the middle class, its dismantling of legislation designed to protect the middle class. Look back at history and see the future of the US, Feudalism where there are a few powerful and the rest of us are serfs.

Yes, and the "true" 99 % have such respect for the rule of law that they would encourage and condone shooting people without affording those people their right to due process.
