Why are Gelatos (and Runtz) so popular? The high is flat.

oooooo that sounds nice. me personally, I like the dank "GMO" type concentrates, they seem to hit me harder than the sweet stuff.

I think a big reason the cookies stuff was pushed is the yield. The plants are generally compact and have rock hard resin coated buds. I think growers hyped it as being “fire” because it looks good online and you get a lot of weed off the plants.
the first time I smoked real gsc, I was so excited. I’d seen it on the internet and it looked like the best weed in the world to me, everyone was hyping it up. I got gsc and Tahoe og at the same time. The tahoe outshined the cookies in every way, taste, smell, and effects. So much better. Then again some people don’t discern those differences at all, and if it’s purple and frosty and some rapper is talking about it, that’s good enough

I get that sentiment.

My buddy grew Pineapple fields and GSC side by side. The PF is a foxtailing, airy bud monster, and the GSC looks sharp on the vine. I think they both smoke just fine, but I'm a sativa head, specifically haze.

I don't smoke a whole lot, but when I smoke, I like it to be a real motherfuck. If I'm alone and I smoke a quarter of a joint without some regret and paranoia, it's not the weed for me.

I'd like to say that mainstream hip hop really played a role in the marketing of Gelato/Runtz/Gumbo and others.

Grew a few Gelato crosses and they've all been a one and done. nothing bad nothing good.
I think this btings another point people are missing...

Keepers are rare, and everyone has a different standard.

I thought my PF was the shit. Then I remembered I got two ladies in 5 seeds, and people who hunt phenos grow tons of plants or buy clones.

I liked her, she was a keeper for my level of expertise, but now that she's gone, I'm more excited to find even better phenos and new strains.

Good weed isn't bad just because it isn't great, and it's all relative.

LMAO couldn't have been said better by anyone

If it's a strain that doesn't make me question my life decisions, I need something stronger

I've got that waiting for another flower tent. I'm really looking forward to some, steal someone's mailbox and hide in the closet kind of high. Although I keep lying to myself I could leave them on the back of my table forever lol.

Very nice!

I am waiting for life to slow down a little before I take on a 20 week strain. I've been eyeballing this link since I was made aware of it, I sincerely hope if and when you take on this project, you share some photos with us!

Different strokes for different folks lol....I haven't grown the newer shit....but from what I've seen, results are ALL over the place....as expected for non tested hybrids lol

My example will be Apple Fritter....I've had legit apple fritter from 3 sources.....1 had awesome terps, very weak potency.....1 had weaker terps but potency was off the charts, one of the strongest hybrids I've smoked.....and the 3rd was somewhere in between, with a good potency, and tasting like excellent apple dessert.....

So when ppl say oh I've got gelato...or apple fritter...or any of these new strains....you really don't know what you're getting into until you smoke it.

BTW I agree with the flat/bland high....I said the same shit about OGs and Kush, but those are still very popular too.

I've always been more of a haze fan myself...but to each their own....I have seen really nice examples of cookies and cream, gsc, and gelato 33 that proved enough to me that if done right and if lucky finding phenos, it could be absolutely fire....but the fire is far and few between with them

@Tolerance Break, let me put it a different way (since I just found out about the other way), if you aim for a keeper pheno in a small sampling, is it better to work a strain with back-crossing and selfing (compare fem with auto)(not a fan of autos, but I do respect that some work them past F10) OR use meristem culture? (this particular knowledge came to me with discount codes to give (just happened today (yay))). I'll have to learn how it's done. Sounds way better.

So, would you agree that there are benefits to selfing (e.g., stability, promoting specific phenos)? Is it specifically yield that's lost? Since standards are higher than in the 90s/early 2000s, does yield matter so much if seeds are more likely to produce the pheno you want?

I've got two currently that I'm aware of that have either been back-crossed multiple times or are otherwise at least an S1.
