why did it take so long?

Religion has definately held us back. An example: look at the Salem witch trials. Religion stated witches had to die. How many people burned because they had a better idea for irrigation than their neighbors, or because of a basic idea of general medicine? Look at the Crusades. How many of our "geniuses" did religion kill through war? Religion has no place in civilized society, in my opinion.

No shit! Can you imagine living a life where everything is real and exists unless proved otherwise?
I guess he still believes in Santa and the Tooth Fairy.

well the world believe newton when he said time was absolute, and that gravity held the universe together. then came ol' albert and said that time was not absolute, that it was relevant, and that space was not just emptiness, but that it actually was shaped. with curves, and dips as those on your face. mr. eddington proved that a few years later.

honestly i don't even remember what we're argueing about, but aliens are real, my moms the tooth fairy, and our universe is a molecule of toe cheese underneath someones discolored, fungis infested toenail. imagination proves to move man forward.

Please tell us exactly why you think Newton's hypothesis of absolute time has anything to do with your claim that things are real and true unless proven otherwise?
You seem to be somewhat acquainted with relativity theory, now maybe you should learn some logic and try some inquiring, skeptical thought processes.

i wasn't being serious, and sarcasm is hard to get over the internet i know.

but what i was trying to get at, is that imagination, and not always following the "general rule of thumb" is what moves us forward.

and i believe this started with
Vrillon. don't you think that's skeptical? inquiring? when others dismiss it without a thought, it's the ones that question it who are the true inquirers. im skeptical about 9/11, about the war on "terrorism". so you don't need to give me advice on using inquiring OR skeptical thought processes. but thanks.
