So, pit-bulls DIDN'T do it to themselves. I think you're half-way on to something here. Pitbulls are dogs. Like any animal, they should be treated with the same respect, and love you would show a human. Saying that, they are a "known aggressive breed of dog" is fucking bullshit. They respond to how they are treated. Product of their environment. I'm getting sick of people treating these pups like their some sub-standard type of hound. Saying (in so many words) that they have a pre-disposition for fighting....again....piss on that......They only want to love and be loved, like any good dog. And, piss on anyone who doesn't agree with me.
 
An Animal is an Animal, yes they can be trained, and some may never harm a human in their life, but that does not mean it couldn't happen or won't happen...Jeez even trained humans lash out from time to time, and that's the quiet ones...

Lol. First thought that came to mind about my "killer".... He could not be a bigger scaredy cat!

I've been around dogs my entire life. All breeds, all sizes, all personalities. I used to have a predetermined opinion about pits too. All based on "What i'd heard". When I went to the pound I CERTAINLY was not looking for a pitbull. I was looking for the sweetest, most loving dog who needed a home badly. When we passed by "byrons" kennel the desperation in his eyes did it. I stopped for a second to look and this CLOWN put on the silliest "take me home PLEEEEASE take me home" show I've ever seen. I had to give him a chance. We asked about him and he was a stray who "scared easily but recovered well". The next day we brought our 9 year old black lab girl to meet him and see how they interacted. They didn't even seem to notice each other.

SO we took home a 6 month old blue nose pitbull. I had decided he had a 30 day trial and if he did anything weird or aggressive BACK HE WENT.

Of all the dogs I've owned or been around Skooby (his new name) is the most obedient, loyal, well behaved, loving, snuggle-monster ever. We've had him 2 years now. He loves other dogs and can charm the pants off of anyone. My Mom dislikes dogs especially pitbulls (no basis either just what she's heard)...Now skooby sleeps in bed with her when she visits us from out of town and she asks if she can have him :)

I will say this though. He is a HIGH energy dog and requires an obscene amount of exercise. He has also had rules and discipline since the day we got him. When I read stories about 4 pitbulls in a 1 bedroom apartment with 3 small children it's no wonder one of them snaps and bites a kid. I would too.

Ps... I've been bitten by 2 dogs in my life: A cocker Spaniel and a dalmation. I think dogs are like races of people (don't turn this into some racist shit anyone please)... There are assholes of EVERY race, just like there are asshole dogs of every breed. Sad when pits get lumped into an all or nothing category.

Also this. People always say "awwww he's such a small pit! he must be the runt!" NO he's actually an american pit bull terrier- Not some mutated wannabe gangster mastiff-steroid-mix.

I got into a tussle with a real red nose pit, evil little fucker, was known for trying to eat the kids on the block.
One day it got loose, I had it in a head lock, almost killed it by breaking its neck.

Don't get me wrong, they are strong, but a good strong head lock and a quick flick of the neck and you could put a dog down quickly.
This is what you should be scared of, I'll have one at the end of the year when my friends bitch gives birth.


That dog will eat you, your pit, your family, your pits family, and your familys, family, and still want more food.
They have a one ton bite, they can jump over 9 feet, they are bigger than the average human, and start naturally protective of their family, they will fight to the death with no command given if protecting.

The dog may or may have not liked me lol.
It hated everyone else, but it licked me to death so I was able to headlock it without harm.
I truly think dogs sense fear, they can smell it coming from your pores.

I've been around tons of dogs since I was little, very evil and angry ones, and as long as I showed I wasn't scared they never once even barked mean at me.
 
It goes in cycles i find
before it was the doberman, now its the pitbulls, people have been in polls and siberian huskies, are up there usually in number 2-4 spot, so i imagine their the next fad of "vicious dogs"
they also used rottwielers are vicious dogs, it just a trend, you see more "pitbull" like dogs now,

but what i find really interesting is pitbull isnt even a freaking real dog breed, so by saying pitbull their including, like 10 breeds of dog which is a short list in the terrier group (IE american stafforshire terrier ) and the bully group, (IE english bulldog)

theres a ban where i live in this province no one can own a pit bull.
i have a dog breeder and dog lover in my family, and she basically just laughs at that ban, because she can own any of the terrier like group, and any of the bully group, and can breed those groups within their groups, if she breeds those two together, no can do , because its considered a "pitbull"

the fad will go away in time, and than another dog will be named aggressive my guess, the husky.
 
it is 99% owner with ANY dog. IMO, folks get dogs and don't exercise them NEARLY enough so they become destructive and/or aggressive because they have too much pent up energy. Dogs are not cats, you can't' just live with one. They need very clear boundaries and they are most secure when they know who's in charge of their pack (you). Dogs are either submissive or dom personalities regardless of breed. If you have a sub. dog, you're lucky, they will respect you pretty automatically. If you have a dom dog, you need to establish that you re alpha right away. A dog feels more secure knowing his place in the family.

Also, I think we can dispense with the Anthropomorphism, dogs are not human children, they are dogs and need to be raised as such. Doing otherwise will confuse the dog and lead to many of the negative behaviors, regardless of breed.

This is the reason as to why I dislike domesticated animals, for they carry the mark of human intervention.

You might believe that your dog is incapable of attacking viciously, as you might believe yourself to be incapable of behaving like a savage and attack someone, but such potentiality does lie deep within everyone of us, as it is in our nature. That doesn't mean we're either good or bad, it just means we humans. The common ancestor to most dogs is the wolf.
 
Im my areas its not pits people fear its the american akitas. I had one before a had to move north six months old he would jump off the second story belcony to the ground when i walked into the gate to greet me, never was agressive even around my fathers girlfriends cocky ass chihuahua. He was basicly a big, clumsy ball of fir but he was the strongest dog i have ever owned or been around so i can see how there would be issues if you got a jerk dog or you turned one mean.
The mountain breeds of dogs can be scary mofos, pyranese, st bernards can be 220+lbs my neighbors is and its agressive. Im not afraid of it but that doesnt mean im going to cuddle him anytime soon.

If only all dogs had the temperment of newfoundlands

My toy dog Is like a cat she does live with me lol but my guard dogs took alot of training and discipline for them to not act up and run out in the road lol they aren't attack dogs they just bark at anything out of the ordinary
