Why do we have seatbelt laws?

i was kind of thinking it had less to do with some insurance company conspiracy and more to protect responsible people like me from having to pay to keep irresponsible "freedom lovers" in a permanent vegetative state.

Umm because no one wants the job of mopping up hundreds of people that would go shooting out through windshields every year?
And because it lowers the severe injury numbers for insurance companies.

Well SheSkunk you are more than welcome to not wear a helment or seatbelt. In fact I even encourage it, the less people we have like you in the world the higher the standard of the average girl.

Or helmet laws? For that matter.
When I worked in Kentucky they had unusual helmet laws but they made sense. If you didn't have health insurance you had to wear a helmet. If you wanted to risk your health, go right ahead, just don't expect the state to pay for it. That was almost 20 years ago, I don't know what they are now.

My first time going to Daytona I couldn't wait to cross into florida and take my helmet off. I hopped on I-95 through Jacksonville, got off the the first exit and put my helmet back on. Scary. Took it back off on side streets though. F THE MAN!! I'M A REBEL!

Anyone here beside the village idiot wear a helmet as a kid riding bicycles? It's almost strange to see one without now. We should pass a law bubble wrapping our kids.

Why do you "have to" is the question you should be asking Meathead rather than blindly lapping the boots thrust under your snout.

because "freedom lovers" turned vegetables can't tell anyone to just go ahead and pull the plug.

it's pretty simple, but i'm glad you brought plenty of insults and your persecution complex into the equation.

Its 2nd nature for me to click the belt in the car , i lobbied with ABATE to repeal Michigans helmet law which was overturned but find i wear my helmet most of the time , if im on country 2 lane highways or surface streets i wear the skid lid , on the expressway it allways comes off .

Ive got good insurance with a $750,000 cap on single injuries or disease & at my age its enough to pay for my own care should i end up a onion .

I let everyone in my family know to pull the plug. My brother says the opposite, sacrifice chickens if it keeps him alive.

The seatbelt thing is auto to me, but the law is about revenue, nothing more.

Was hoping a guy named panhead would weigh in on helmet laws.

If I'm traveling through Detroit, i will wear my helmet downtown, especially on 75 from 94 to I96. Crazies. In fact, I wear it almost every where in MI. It's FL with it's heat and humidity that the helmet has to come off. I95 and bugs the size of sparrows make me leery.

Because we are trying to regulate stupidity. If we'd just get back to natural selection and survival of the fittest a lot of our problems would naturally disappear along with the retards that cause them.
