Why doesn't everyone grow SCROG?

So I'm thinking I'm gonna give it a whirl. It sounds pretty straight forward to me. I would think more people would go this route.

But isn't SCROG the most productive way to grow? I guess I'm just wondering if I'm missing something. Am I wrong to think it's not a too difficult way to grow?

what do you mean lol, sorry for my ignorance but please explain this?
What I mean is it is apparently the most productive way to grow and it seems easy enough to do. Just wounding why more people don't go this route. It doesn't even seem like the majority grow this way.

how would you incorporate a scrog into a perpetual grow? i think thats the main reason too much trouble and its a lot harder to maintain a scrog on a big scale or multiple scrogs.

People who don't use scrogs:
1. Perpetual growers, the pants don't veg long so don't fill the screen.
2. Good, comfortable LST'ers as they get just as good of results with proper LST
3. 12/12 from seeds, as there is no time to train plants.
4. Automatics as there is no time to train plants.
5. CFL growers adjust the lights to 1" inch off the shape the plant takes and scrogging would not help with this.
6. If you have enough light, or moving light, you wouldn't need a SCROG to ensure maximum coverage.
7. SOG growers
8. If you have enough plants to cover the area without a scrog.
9. Outdoor growers.

Other than those 9 circumstances, yeah scrog is best :P. Scrog is a useful LST tool, but its still just lst- and there is plenty of grow setups that wouldn't benefit from it all and would have a screen in the way the plants your dealing with.

Cheers :)

SCROG growing has been used for years. In modern terms, the method was first popularized on the internet by the work of pH on the usenet group Alt Drugs Pot Cultivation, or "ADPC" for short. The method as initially used by pH was designed to tweak production from a large area under fluorescent lights.

While it can be, and in some cases is, used by growers with higher wattage lights and no restrictions/limitations on height the method was designed so someone with height restrictions/limitations and lower wattage lighting could still grow and get a respectable yield.

For someone without restrictions/limitations in height and who uses higher wattage lighting there is not much need or reason to pick the SCROG method.

bingo! you can LST a plant to the point where unless you get under the canopy, you'd believe it was scrog'd. Ill be doing a side-by-side scrog vs LST(without scrog) for shits and gigs this go around

i like bending/supercropping. especially later, when buds get heavy, they fall over after bending, exposing lower growth. i'm into making things as simple as i can. screen is to fussy, imo. it's already hard enough to reach plants in the back of my flowering area, 4ft away since i don't have clearance on the back or on either side. it would be impossible for me to get at them to feed, prune, or inspect if i had a big ol' screen in my way. as others have said above, i'm also vegging less these days. started out with trees (3 to 4 months veg), but now flowering after 6 to 8 weeks.

I do a perpetual scrog, and its starting to kick ass.

3 weeks in the bubble cloner
1 week in cups (20/4 mh 400)
4 weeks of heavy LST in pots (20/4 mh 400)
4 weeks scrog (12/12 HPS 400)
4 weeks scrog (12/12 HPS 600)

Im still fine tuning the veg schedule to fit my screen perfectly. Thats the key. If you dont veg enough to fill youre screen, youre wasting light. If you grown them too big before 12/12, you will quickly run out of room in the screen.

The pic below shows 2 crops that I only vegged for 3 weeks, next crop going in will be vegged for 4 weeks. They're a month apart.

scrog is indeed an effective method of maintaining plant height, but is unnecessary for those who don't require an even canopy of buds. scrog was developed to maximize the effectiveness of HIDs by getting them as close to the flowers as possible and providing an even blanket of light. when i grow outdoors, i'll often end up topping my plants multiple times to get the same kind of monster plant without the work of securing and training each branch to the screen. i usually just toss a sturdy stake in the middle and tie the buds at different levels to avoid shady patches. to each their own eh.

I lst and get very comparable results with a scrog, the only scrogs I see that have better results than my lst'd plants are the guys who veg for WAY longer than I do. There comes a point during veg where lst'ing can no longer be done and in order to maintain a even canopy the only way to do it would be by scroging.

I lst my plants to the max then flower.

I think either lst or scrog is THE WAY for best results though.

Well, I grow for personal use and I harvest more than I can use. Since I have a strict no-selling policy, extra bud is given out to friends. I also like to take my plants out of the closet for examination and pruning, so why would I want to put any time and effort into scrog?

That's why I lst... I like to be able to move my plants around..

Yeah ok, so I see everyones points. I understand that not everyones particular arrangment allows them to grow SCROG and that not everyone is looking for max potential yeild. I guess I should have asked, "Why wouldn't someone wanting max yeild and and having plenty of room for a SCROG setup, grow SCROG?"

Fuck that now anyway. Now that I think of SCROG as just another way to LST and given my already cramped growing quarters, I'm leaning more to LST. My only problem is that I'm growing in plastic totes which don't really allow an easy way to tie the limbs down. Guess that was one reason I was drawn to SCROG, which is basically a inverted LST. Guess I'm back to the drawing board. Maybe I can use little eye bolts in the tote lids? Hmmm....

depends on how big your area is. the larger it is the harder it is to do scrog. I hate those trellis nettings. they break and loosen. if you have good genetics and the plants can hold themselves up and if you have the room there is no need for scrog.

Fimm n LST......
