Why is my ppm so high?

Hello every one. I am real new at growing and have a pretty simple question. Why is my ppm so high?
I am growing in dwc with a 55 gallon recirculating rez. I am in my 3 week of veg. My water ppm I measured is 60. So I start to add my nutes. First thing I add is CalMag. I put 250 ml into my 55 gal. rez. I measured my ppm and it hit a whopping 567 ppm. WTF! I was only trying to keep it at about 800 ppm. With just the CalMag alone reaching 567 ppm I cannot barely use any other nutes without going way over. HELP!!! What am I doing wrong?

ppm's are sorta indiscriminate of what it measures; having a lot of something else doesn't necessarily preclude "X" amount of something different .... if in fact you didn't overdo the Cal-Mag (or something else), I'd just proceed as planned...but my question is, water & Cal-Mag aren't expensive, so why not simply flush, dilute & refill?
...and one more thing, I personally never trust any single ppm or pH meter...I usually have 2ea

IMO- you should of started with a smaller Hydro operation.

What is your water? well water? City tap water?
what's that 60 PPM in your water before you add anything to it?
What's the pH of your water with out nutrients?

You could get a RO system get your water down to 0 PPM

Don't add 250ml. add some and measure the PPM do the cal mag like that or add the other stuff first and do the cal/mag last till you hit your target PPM

If you have well water you don't even need to add the cal/mag. If you had a RO/ system with 0 PPM water then you could add the cal/Mag

You have to start with a gallon of the water you intend to use. Scale everything as you go. After you have a gallon the way you want it and nothing over or under done multiply by the gallons of the res and scale in the proper amount. Never try to balance a large res by guessing from the get go. You'll find that to be a waste of time.

the stupidity in some advise is self evident....
but I'll explain anyway: the girls will let you know

why wait till there is a problem? why wouldn't you measure 1st and hence avoid all the potential stupid problems to begin with?
