Will 12 pot Ebb & Gro fit inside 5x5 tent?

Hello everyone,

So basically I have been trying to read as much as I can as learn as much as I can before I dive head first into everything, and I figure this is the best way to get answers to my specific questions. First things first I am pretty dead set on getting the 12 pot Ebb & Gro system to start out on my gardening endeavors. The problem I am having is choosing between 2 different ways to set up my room for this all to take place. The first is something that may actually not even be a good route to go, which is why I brought my quetsions to this forum! haha Important note is that both setups will involve me using a 1,000w MH/HPS light set-up unless a better light suggestion can be given, which I am completely open to! I am also not too knowledgeable on fans and carbon filters but any suggestions on that would be great as well.


The first option would be that I currently have a 5'x5'x6.5' tent. What I'm wondering is will a 12 pot Ebb & Gro system comfortably fit in that sized tent from start to finish? If so, what type of proper veg/flower cycle (in weeks i mean) would allow the plants to not overwhelm each other while still getting maximum yield?

The alternative would be to buy some of the panda film and basically create my own room. This will be in an unfinished basement that I pretty much have unlimited space as far as to accustom to the 12 pot hydro setup. So I'd make a room, most likely 8'x'8x8'(i believe my basement ceiling is 8') with the panda film. Like I said I have a really big open room basement so there is definitely room for play.

Please let me know which set up would be best way to go and best way to go about it. Any and all opinions welcome! Thanks

I have a ebb&gro by cap. I would get the titan system. The first tent will work but the bigger one will give ya more room to work and you will be able to see your plants better. The titan has 3gal pots and is just a better system. My ebb&gro works but I have repalced the control bucket 2 with the one it came with this is the 3 one. Now the Cap leaves too much water in the bottom of the buckets so when the roots get down that far I put a 1" spacer under the pots and leave the control bucket on the floor. Don't use any powered stuff it will plug up the pumps. match

Way too many plants for just 1k watts unless your going to SOG.

I have 3600 over 8 plants. My new room will have 8,400 over 16 plants. I grow them big mind you but a 1k will give you a 4x4 footprint of good light.

Will you be putting the res outside the tent, and the controller bucket inside? Its the only way to get the hoses to be laying flat to operate the gravity fed system of keeping the buckets the same water level.

I think its way too many plants in that small tent, maybe 6 in there? Seems real tight.

Yea if I were to do it in the tent from what I've read and seen I'd be placing the res outside of the tent and the controller inside like you were saying.

But since some people are saying the tent would be way too crammed for the 12 what I am now considering is going with the 2nd option I listed, but incorporating the tent by maybe using it as a seedling/veg room once I get a cycle going through my custom made room. Ive read of people starting with rockwool cubes in the flood and drain trays and then transferring over to the pots once vegging is done, does that seem like a viable option? I'd like to not just scrap the tent since I already have it, so at the least I was hoping to find a way to use it even if I built my own room.

@MrGanja ..... what would you recommend the size of the room I am going to custom build be for the 12 pot system? I cannot find a definitive answer as to what a good distance between each pot should be. I obviously want to give them enough space but at the same time I don't want to make too big of a room and lose out on light penetration.

Good advice. Maybe 9 sites in the tent, 8 plants and the controller, res outside like you said. That would give you 3 extra sites on hand as spares...

Again. It comes down to your light. One 1,000 = 4x4 so you could build a 30 x20 tent but still only have 16 sq ft of growing area.

Longer veg equals bigger plants and larger harvests. It's helpfull to think about sq ft per plant. My scrog beasts get about 8.5 sq ft each. That is a 4 week veg time. I would think that as a minimum you would want 4 sq ft per plant or a 2x2 area.

I do know however that when plants start overlapping they will stretch. Stretch no good.

Btw. You could always build another bucket system to veg with. A controller bucket kit will cost you $100. Active aqua or aqua hub...something like that sells them. They are VERY high quality kits.

Then you veg them and just pick them up and move them. I would not veg too long on an ebb flood table. The roots will get very intertwined pretty quickly

I have 12 site 5gal ebb n flow in 6x6 tent... i only veg in it cause i using t5s. If you keep them small you can deffinetly scrog in it but idk about hps light cause takes bunch of room up top an then buckets take room. Plant itself wouldnt be that big.Dont build your own unless you find strong buckets! I used lowes 5gal buckets an they all stressed around the hole with watere filling an draining. I gave up on building cause leaks with the rubber o rings and and sealant.

if i were to build myself it would only be the actual room, not the system. I have no interest in building my own system right now lol like I said I'm pretty dead set on getting the c.a.p. ebb and gro system. I am just considering, and definitely leaning towards now, building my own room with some panda film or whatever of that sort to my own sizing that I feel will fit the system perfectly.

@ Legallyflying ...... if i were to get 2 1000w lights for the set up instead of just the one, with the 12 pot system what sized room would you recommend building to obtain maximum lighting conditions. I'm considering getting the two lights after doing some research and hearing your opinion.

2 1k watt lights would give you 32 sq ft to work with a little over 2.5 sq ft for each plant. I would go with two rows of 6; six plants under each light. Honestly, I would probably go with 10 plants total. 4 under each light and one where the light mixes between the two hoods.

not sure why your dead set on the cap. With a step-drill bit and $100 controller bucket..your in business and you can use 10gallon sterlite totes that are like $3 a piece at wallmart. I don't know what whats is nuts above is talking about having them leak. If you install the grommets properly they don't leak. Hell, I have about 30 of these buckets and I don't use sealant and they never leak.

Seriously think about it though... $500 for something you can build in 2-3 hours for $200... Ummm, no thank you. That is just me though.

I used circle buckets with correct gromets... if your using totes then i could see how it would work but i wanted 5gal buckets only.

Buy 5gal system now! I used 2 gallon system for week and learned what a difference 5gallon would be. 2 gallon system will be waste if you have room.

the cap system is ok i ran it for a while with good results, but the system has its flaws. i would save yourself the trouble and get titan as recommended in a earlier post, it is a great system. i ran the 12 site in a 4x8 space with x2 1kw lights and did well. i just swithched to the titan system and am only doing 8 in my space now. also with the titan i threw a large commercial air pump with a stone in the bottom of each site, this made a awesome difference. i would not reccomend putting the control bucket in the room/tent with the sites at all, there are deffinetly ways to run the system without the control bucket in the room with the plants. the control bucket always has water in the bottom and can heat up under lights. i simply put a 3/4" hole in the back of the control bucket and with a barbed fitting in it then ran a 3/4" pvc manifold inside the room with a 3/4" barbed fitting poking out the tent that i could run a 3/4 hose from control bucket to manifold that feeds the sites, this would keep the res and sitting water in the control bucket at a lower temp than the room under the lights this helped me out greatly, also i dropped my control bucket about 1.5" lower than the sites to get them to drain completely this is no longer a issue for me in the titan as i have a stone in each site and water every 2 hours around the clock now. anyway here are some pics of my 12 site e&g and the 8 sites with the titan. bigger is defiantly better lol.

first 4 pics are of the current titan run and the last 3 are of my last run in the cap 12 site. last run was 36oz out of all 12.

i dont understand! you learned the difference between 2 and 5 gal sites in just a week?? did you even run a run with 2 gal sites? how many 5 gal sites are you running in your space?

Ya know, 4 gallon buckets are actually better than the for gallon ones. Seriously, because they are square. You can usually find them on CL for about 1.50 each. If you buy two and nest them, you can drill holes in the bottom of the first one and fill

I did real well thy way but decides to use net pots on top of the square buckets and then reverse my ebb/flow controller so that it stays mostly full (dwc) and then empties into a central rez for cooling and mixing...then it fills the buckets again

Drgreen- nope ran system for 1 week to make sure no leaks ect and then did ton of reading and talk to cardholders and decided to get rid of the 2gal system. Actually didnt even sell yet lol. Have it inside a store for 300.

But my plants are going to be 7ft after the flowering stretch with the new rooms i have in the process. My 4x8 would be good with the 2gal cause smaller plants and height issues. My opinion is if your spending the money then get the bigger gallon system for pennies extra just in case you wanna go bigger later.

These are about 1 week veg after couple days of them stunted from transplant (root growth im sure) im loving the hydro already! Doubled in size in 1 week. Was nervous about light getting inside pots around the fabric but seems clean and ill wipe it down once a week. My 55gal in outside the tent.

Thats veg only tent though and i get those systems 12 site for 450 new. So i bought 2. 1 veg and 1 flowering. They have the rock that dont roll and silica rocks in the fabric pots. Prob wont use the silica again cause my ph raises from it everyday. Hoping after it rinses out the rocks enough it will be more stable.
