Will 6" Max Fans work to cool a 600w HPS lamp?

Hello... I'm new here, and a registered MM patient. I've got my indoor Grow tent cultivation going well and it's about time to remove the T5 and switch over to
600w HPS lighting. I've got a question about cooling the 600w lamp bulb.

When I bought the Sun Hut tent, it was part of a package which includes a Gro1
fixture for the 600w HPS light, ballast and the HPS bulb itself. They also included a 6" duct fan. The tent has a number of cutouts for ducts,

I happen to have two 6" Max Fans, which have 3 separate speeds. I happen to like these fans a lot and was wondering if they would be suitable to use as inline duct fans to cool the 600w HPS bulb. The light fixture for the HPS bulb has a sealed glass panel and two 6" duct openings, one on each side. I'd plan on putting one fan blowing air on the bulb and the second fan extracting from the other side. I believe the fans speed goes up to 330 cfm.

Thanks very much for any help

Sounds like you have everything you need, just getting it configured right is key. I'll make a simple diagram hope it helps:

outside tent air >> 6" max fan >> light hood>> outside tent

inside tent >> carbon filter (if you are concerned about smell) >> 6" max fan >> outside tent.

open up flaps at bottom of tent for passive intake.

this is the basics

More than likely you wont want to run the fans on highest setting, especially the one drawing air from the tent, too much negative pressure can collapse the tent. More info on your set-up and conditions would help us help you.

Thanks AK, appreciate the info.

I've got my Sun Hut grow tent set up in my den, it's a little over 4' x 4' x 7.5'. The initial lighting is a Sun Blaze 6 tube 4' T5, which I've been using thru the Veg cycle. My plant are all about 24" tall not including the pot, with the exception of my two Pineapple Kush plants which are close to 36", they are the fastest growing and strongest Cannabis plants I've ever grown. The rest of my 9 plants are Afghani Kush, Blue Mist and White Widow. With that said, I'll probably have to look into some supplemental lighting along with the 600w HPS setup I'm going to hang.

Getting back to the fan and ducting, to recap
So I can hook up one 6" Max Fan via flexible 6" ducting into the HPS light fixture and then run ducting from the other side of the fixture to exhaust to the outside of the tent.
The 2nd 6" Max Fan will suck air from the inside of the Grow Tent and go thru a Carbon filter and exhaust it also to the outside.
I've also got two Holmes 3 speed oscillating tower fans, one is 31" tall, the other is about 18" tall, it keeps the interior temp range at 70F to 74F, and that's when the outside temps are over 108F, with the house AC cooling to 74F. Should I keep the tower fans in the tent also during the flowering?

Thanks very much,

Rob

AK is right, that's the best setup. Pull in cool ambient air to pass through the hoods and have a separate exhaust. Only thing I disagree with is that the fan should be after the light.
I have
filter->light->light->fan->exhaust

I use a 440 cfm inline to cool 2 600w, it does an alright job. Cool tubes are on the list though, just to give you an idea. For one you should be fine though, especially without a filter.

Yea, youll want a fan or 2 in the tent to circulate the air inside the tent and make the plants "dance" a lil, helps them become stronger to hold the wieght of the bud, improves aspiration and will reduce risk of moldy buds.

Sounds like you got the idea, the intake for the hood cooling run is outside the tent, if you didnt get that.

My next concern is the size of your plants, they sound quite large for the room you have, as allot of strains can double(or more) in hieght during flowering.

Not only will it work it will kick as..i currently have a six hundo. .And i used to have to keep the door open..now with a 300 cfm max fan it dropped to a solid 75 in the day and seventy at nite..mine is also connected to a can fan..absolutely the best addition to the garden yet

Would you recommend that I "top" them off, especially the tall Pineapple Kush
plants?

Say I cut off about 8" from the twoi tops of the plant, can the cut tops be replanted or cloned?

Thanks!

Stuck..Yeah, I was amazed how much better the plants looked when I hooked up the Max-Fam and had the two Holmes tower fans going. They really started to get huge.

I prefer bending. But I'm not real exp. at growing "trees", I have always grown SOG or ScrOG, so anything sounds tall to me, lol. You may want to look elsewhere for advice on topping them this late.

No expert here either but I wouldnt think you should cut the entire top shoot off. That's the main stem with alot of hormones in it for new growth and everything. Unless someone more experienced corrects me, I'd think you should tie or supercrop.

Oh and one last suggestion, if someone gives you good info you can give them "+rep" its the badge looking emblem lower left. And if you like a post they make, you can hit the "like" lower right. :peace:

thats a 400cfm pulling through a carbon filter first, then going through my 1k hps and vented out to another room.

I'm in an attic.

I'm sure that fan will keep your 600 cool
