Will I run into problems using a 5 gallon pot outside?

I am planning on growing 2 plants outside (my first outside grow),here is some details,
Strains- Blue Cheese,Sour Diesel
5 gallon smart pots
Fox Farms OF soil
plan on topping and LST'ing.
My biggest priority is to keep them relatively small,I am not concerned about high yields.They will probably veg for 3 month's before the day's get short enough to flower.If I use 5 gallon pots,I know that should keep the size more manageable,but will it cause problems with the plant (rootbound),or will they stay healthy,but just stop growing?I have 10 gallon smart pots,but don't want to use them if I don't have to.I also don't want to try and transplant them from 5 gallon smart pots to 10's,I think it might be tricky with fabric pot's.If I have to use 10 gallon pots,I would rather do it right from the start.Any input would be appreciated!

I grew a Dinafem Cheese in a 7 gallon smart pot last summer outdoors. It did fine. I topped it and supercropped it. It ended up growing to about 4 feet tall. I pulled about 8-9 ounces dry weight.
I did have to water frequently in the drier part of the summer.

How tall do the plants get in 15 gallon pots outside with or without training? Would they grow taller planted directly into the ground? I've got three in a five gallon bucket now that were born outside about two months ago and I need to decide which spot will be best for guerilla style and height would be a big part of the decision. Thanks for asking this question OP!

There are too many variable there to answer the pot ground question accurately. ......but.... yes train them if you want them short. Top...bend...tie down...etc. plus if you leave it without training it and you dont have it tied down well...your branches will break or your stem during a good wind.

So basically with training I can keep them around 4ft. They're og crosses so I shouldn't have to much trouble keeping them short. They've been topped once already. Second one coming soon. Thanks.

The 5 gallon buckets won't keep them short, it will encourage them to grow tall and stringy. They will keep shedding bottom leaves each time they get too dried out and/or hungry and growing up trying to search for better conditions. If you want short plants, put them in a wide pot and train them short and wide. Top a few times. 10-15 gallons is the smallest I would go outdoors.

that's what I would do and water every day when its hot as hell and buding.i got a friend that grows in 5 gallen buckets and some he get a pound off of but he keeps them in his back yard to take care of.hes been lucky the hellchopper has not spoted them in the past..ky

Don't forget to feed them, especially after they flip to flower. As the season goes on they'll use up what the limited amount of soil can provide, and top dressing with some time release nutes is easy and goes a long way (or whatever your preferred method is).

in the ground with a good soil mix the plants will give you 5 times moor weight at least and weight is what your after..ky

I had an uncle who lived in Louisiana he always grew a few plants in five gallon buckets. I don't remember him complaining about it but I don't know if he ever planted in the ground.

Yes it will but I would cut the bottom and put it in a bigger container. use dutch maSTER zone . only wsy to prevent root rot. got synthetic btw

I have mine in a 5 gallon right now i believe and the roots are already coming out the bottom. I have on the other hand that other plant in the tire with chicken wire on the bottom to stop gophers. Im planning on digging another hole and doing the same thing because of the results. the larger one is actually tied down LST training for 3 weeks now i think. its going to be a beast blue cheese and other is a mystery purple.both seeds.

Cage the one in the tire and feed and water it good and that will be your best plant of the two,the other plant I would dig a hole and put it in the ground to get your sealf moor buds to smoke..ky
