Will putting An Auto flowering Strain Under 12/12 be bad for my bud?

Hey all,

I have 1 grow room, with a single auto-flowering hindu kush that I believe is somewhere near 2 weeks away from harvest, and in that same room, there are 4 plants, and some clones from those plants, from bagseed. The bagseed plants have been in the dirt for about 8 weeks now.

Liights are an LED panel and some floros directly over the bagseeders, with a 400W HPS right over the kush.

The biggest of the bagseed plants is getting to be big enough where I am worried that the size of my growroom is getting to be an issue (It aint big), and I still can't tell what sex the bagseed plants are yet. I really want to get the sexing done. Getting rid of males would free up some space in the room, as well as allow me to sort out the m and f clones.

What I am thinking I could do is move the tray of clones out of the room, and give them 18/6, like they have been getting, and then switch the room lighting schedule to 12/12 to force flowering on the bagseed plants. From there, I will continue to veg the clones for a little while, maybe 2-3 weeks(?), then move them into the room to flower under 12/12.

My concern is this: Will going to 12/12 in any way adversely affect my hindu kush plant?

It probably wont' be as lengthy but It will continue to flower normally.

hmmm....don't want to hurt yield, for sure.

I have to figure out a way to get those other ones sexed, ASAP.

My eyes are getting buggy from looking at the pics, through the loupe, the pics, through the loupe, the pics....

I agree. Especially in the last couple of weeks. Your yield will suffer.

Do you have another dark space you could move the ones you want to sex for 12 hrs a day? If so you could move them and keep your hps going longer.

and by "as lengthy" you are also saying yield will suffer?

I may go that route. I lose a good chunk of my house if I do that, and company would be out of the question, tho.

So its either hurt the yield a bit or live like even more of a hermit for 2+ weeks...

Its only 2 weeks, with an auto you will be glad you did.

I'm doing 12/12 with some Diesel Ryder right now and don't see a huge difference between my last grow with the same under 18/6. I'm just into week 5 and they seem to be making good progess.

Yep, but he is in the last few weeks, 12/12 I bet will make his buds softer and lighter. And I do not completely disagree with your experience either. It works, just more light for autos means better yields.

I just looked at my whole rig, and not only could I not find another dark space, but my room has a couple of light leaks, so there is more work to be done on the main room before I can do my first 12/12. Oh well...


Is there a way to cut off the top of the biggest vegging bagseed one without too much harm to it, should it turn out to be female? If I can keep that one from getting too tall, it may help.

On an unrelated note, I think I am going to breed my own strain, and call it "bagseed" and then I can take credit for all the good bagseed grows, and say the bad ones must have been just seeds from street weed. What do you think?

Sure you can top your plants. How tall is it now? About how many nodes does it have? You can pretty much choose a place near the top of the plant just above a node and pinch. Just make sure your hands are very clean or better yet use some scissors that have been cleaned with alcohol.

If you want to sex your plant just take a brown paper lunch bag and cover one side branch so it only gets 12 hours of light. Within a week to ten days you'll start to see reproductive organs.

When you top your plants you can use the top as a clone and then sex the clone. Might take a bit longer (~3-4 weeks) for the clone to root and then for it to start showing sex.

Whoa man that's smart, you're a f*cking genius

At 8 weeks you should have your preflowers showing gender.
Top those plants, tie em down and chill for two weeks and do the brown paper bag idea.
