will regular bbg charcole work? filter

if i run my exaust through a box full of bbq (non lighter fluid ) charcole.. will this eliminate smell to the outside?

i figure id fill a rubermade 15 gal conatiner, break it up to small bits ad run the exaust to that. from thier id have a passive outtake to the outdoors threw a window in my shed.
