I'm just trying to use it for seedlings. Do you think 3 soft white 40 wats and one 2100k 35 watt bulb would work? Just trying to get my plants through atleast 3-4 weeks because my 400 watt hps isn't dimable
After the roots develop and get stronger (usually about 2 weeks) there is no real reason not to put them under 400w. And depending on heat and ventilation you can put it pretty close as well. I use a 400w HID with cool tube and fan. I keep my seedlings about 12" away from them.

What you may want to consider is...you have quite a few plants there...maybe too many for that much HID. How big is your grow space?

Just saw that after I posted my last comment...

IMHO...that is too much space and too many plants for 400w to do justice in.
This is just for fun honestly. Not gonna waste to much light and if worse come to worse two of my plants will be male so that 2 less plants under light.
