Will this work???

Hi all, I have a tent already that im using for veg and flower, but want to speed up my cycles, was thinking of setting up a small room/cube, say 50cmx50cmx50cm for vegging.

All im wanting to do is use it for vegging seedlings, maybe up to three weeks old. I was wondering if a 125CFL would be big enough for that size room. Im only talking about 4-5 plants max.

Once I move them into the main tent, ill transplant them to bigger pots and give them a week under a MH and then flip.

One other thing I wouldn't mind doing is growing a plant purely to produce pollen in the cube, I know id have to keep it small as hell using lst techniques.

How does this sound?

It should work!

Keeping in consideration, that after two weeks, a plant will usually has more foliage and will have a greater light requirement....to keep the growth pace up and to avoid unwanted stretching.

Guess it all depends on how you setup the lighting inside of the grow tent. Will you be using reflectors? I think that as long as you can direct most of the light onto the plants, you should have no problems. Especially if they don't grow that big in the 2-3 weeks time.

And since you'll be re-potting when they go under the MH, they should be good.

Hi Robarley, I will use a reflector, do you think I would be better using a 250w CFL instead? id rather do it right the first time. My only concern is heat build up?

I'm going to install a 120cm axial fan, so I assume that should take care of ventilation.

I have a thread here that talks on that subject a bit. In short, I use 4 x 4's with a 600w mh/hps system. I use one tent to veg my propagated little ones (about 15 right now) in one tent to save electricity and keep everyone together thru the search for unwanted males. At flower, everyone goes to their own tent.

So I guess the main question is should I use a 125 CFL or 250 CFL

Either will work for you bro. The main difference is that the 125's need to be closer to the target. The main thing needed at this point is moisture. In a propagator or similar dome type enclosure, its not so important for water to be on the bottom, as moisture on the side walls. I have an example if you need it. Hope that helps. Peace

Thanks Bird Dog, I was hoping the 125 would be enough, the main reason for doing it, is to speed up the cycles a bit, but if I can cut some electricity costs, even better.

Plus I think It will be easier to control temps with a lower wat lamp.

A 125 will work fine for that space.

As a side note, here is a real cheap way to start your beans. A propagator with 3 little LED lights powered by 3 AAA batteries with a built in thermometer.
