Are you saying that Bob Hope, Humphrey Bogart Veronica Lake, Alan Ladd, Rita Hayworth, Ingrid Bergman, Marilyn Monroe etc. are feared and will remain feared just because they are remembered and will be remembered for many, many, many years to come?

There are all sorts of reasons why someone is remembered. I doubt that Babe Ruth is remembered out of fear.

I bet there were lots of pitchers and batters who feared him. All gone now, though :)

i have almost no family so i guess not. but anyone who thinks that anyone will remember them 100 years from now is deluded. everyone who will have known or remembered you will be dead. if you were lucky enough for them to have mentioned you to someone before they died, then some stranger will have a foggy memory of a conversation someone had with them about someone they never met who grew pot.

even if you do something great, no one will remember you. how can i remember elvis? i never met the guy. eventually everyone who ever heard his music will be dead and there won't be enough interest among youth to listen to it. all the people who thought he was magic will be gone and his legacy will be reduced to a blurb in a history book. people will have heard of him the same way people in our lifetime have heard of george washington carver. sure, some people can tell you who he was and what he did, but for the most part, we're over it.

People being "Over you"
And "Forgetting" you are two different things.

If I get to be an obscure mention in a history book in 100 years, that would be BAD ASS :) IMO

And there are things that YOU can do, and ANYONE can do to be a hero in history books in 1000 years :)

in 100 yrs maybe, i can sort of remember my great grandpa and will do so the rest of my life probably. my kids and their kids will live longer than previous generations most likely so it's feasible in 100 yrs a few memories of me will remain.

Let's define remembered. If it means knowing something about the person, then probably they'd have to be famous (or infamous) for something, either within the family or without. If it means merely knowing or having read one's name, then I suppose ancestry.com will take care of that for many of us :)

100 years isn't that long. I'd only be a hypathetical 120 years old... Or dead for about 40 years....

Assuming there is still something here in 100 years, imagine the technology by then. "Remembered" probably takes on a whole new meaning.

*sighs*if only i was born a few hundred years later...... i could just have my brain put into a robot body and make SURE everyone remembers me, mainly because im still there.seriously though their is so much to do and learn it seems like a cruel joke at times we only get 80-100yrs. From the perspective of time by a non-human life standard that amount of time is absolutely NOTHING. Oh well, guess i got to play with the cards i was dealt regardless.

I can't wait to die, and find out what shits really all about though, or to stop caring because I'm dead :)

But I want it to be like, "WHYYYYY was I worried about ANYTHING in that Earth life, ... Is the shit."

I wouldn't be so quick to limit humanities potential by saying "the closest we will EVER."
Im talking about a consciousness revolution. Future man will not belong to a religion, as we will see it inevitably causes division which = conflict; however future man will have a religious/intelligent mind. Once mankind gets past the superficiality of things like money, war, and religion we can live together with a binding force of love rather than the opposing force of fear.

I'm not "Limiting humanity" or saying it isn't possible, I'm saying that's a stupid idea.

Why would you want to be part of a hive mind?
We have to have opposition...

"The closest humanity would ever TRY to get to that" Is what I should have said I guess :)

maybe, maybe not... i have been in the field of strength and conditioning for a while now and i have had the opportunity to train some really great athletes... Some at the high school level and others in college, although the ultimate goal is to train professional athletes... a high school coach i work hand in hand with is one of the country's greatest coaches in the sport of track and field and he is going to get a book deal, so i do think my name will be in there, hopefully(fingers crossed)...
