Window unit Vs Mini Split

I see a lot of people recommend the mini split units. In the room I amusing it makes more sense to have a window unit (can’t cut any holes in walls ect for a ductless).
but wanted to see what the true benefits of a mini split are before I go and buy a window unit.
I will be running a closed room with CO2

Ah okay I was reading and thought it said window units didn’t exchange air from outside like that. That it was portable units that exhaust air that do that.

I use a window banger. No outside vent option pn my unit. Running sealed w Co2.

Virtually all window units recirculate. Some odor may seep thru. It's just styrofoam between outside world and inside. (Painted flat black if needed for light leak)

Some window units have outside air functionality.

I was typing as you edited it. My old unit I could see light through and the stink, 10 year old unit though so that probably never helped

Yes. I'm using a 6k in my 4x8x8 space.

Mini-splits are top dawg. If you have a medium to big space thats the way to go....if possible.

I know what you mean. Also I admit I run a stand alone fan scrubber inside the space. Not much odor to escape.

Mini-splits are just so much better and heat as well for year round use (unless you live in a very cold place in which case they don't heat so well under a certain temp) but still, way way better, not always an option.

Mini splits are definitely better and you don't necessarily need to cut any holes in your walls if you run the line set through a window opening. You can cover the window with a piece of plywood then cut a hole in the plywood to run your line set and mount the air handler on that same plywood. You will have to screw through the drywall (assuming you have drywall) into some studs.

Dude.....................if I did that where I live people would call the cops. Just sayin' :rolleyes:

I see people put ply-wood up all over to get their window units in where they normally don't fit. It doesn't stick out as much as you'd think.

We live in very different neighborhoods.

No one here allowed to do that. We have condo commando's who make sure of it :blsmoke:

Well that sux but it still is a viable solution for those who don't have to worry about that and don't want to make holes in walls. May not look very aesthetically appealing though.

Will the window unit be cooling the grow space directly or a “lung room”?
If you plan on using it directly in the grow space be prepared for light leaking through the unit or lights off only at night

if you can put a hole in your wall you can't do mini split as far as I know (that plywood might work but why?) to me it comes down to the fact that I work on houses so I don't mind patching walls as I go.
AND I have a long term renting situation 3+ years. so I'm going to invest in a mini split.

Window units from what I've read do fine. you should check it for light and smell leaks first. you might have to take off some shrouds and duct tape some stuff to help with light and smell. better than a fucking portable
