a 250 watt, the guy said he could probably fix it but my dad has 2 400 watt so imma go get his and just get store credit, so when i get to flowering how do you think i should seal in/out the light, i hear if they get light during dark time they turn hermies =/

its def a possibility they could hermi, i would go with the 400 watters too.. If your ballast is only 2 weeks old i would get my money back. Is it a digital ballast?

light leak during your dark cycle can cause hernis , not that it will , but it defiantly increases your chances

if you got some spots where light seeps in you can just put some weather stripping on it

hell their was a small spot on the side of my cab that i notice light leaking out when it was on

so i knew light would leak in also

so i just taped a trash bag down the side of it lol

it was just a small spot but i did not feel like cutting the trash big to the size i needed so i just used the whole thing

look at it ,

it looks tacky i know lol

but no light leaks :wink:

Oh thats cute, see i gotta build one of those, just bigger, how tall do the plants usually get? i know it really does vary, cuz i seen some 8ft tall plants (on youtube Lol) but for an indoor grow whats average? i can make the box 8 feet high if i want but no point if it is unnecessary, i picked up the balast from my dad i think its only for mh lights, or do they all run both types? i can take a pic of it if you want =)

i find that my plants stretch to about triple their size once you flip.
the mh ballast will run both mh and hps in your mh ballast, so yay! in case you were wondering, it doesn't work the other way around (you can't put an mh in an hps ballast).

Awesoommeee , so if my dad woulda had an Hps ballast i would been kinda screwed huh? but since its a mh ballast it takes both? that would be great and i wouldnt have to go out and buy another ballast lol

mh bulbs don't have an ignitor, which means the ballast has one in it.
hps bulbs have an internal striker, hps ballast doesn't have an ignitor.
the double ignitor with hps bulb + mh ballast isn't a problem.

so yeah, you lucked out. ;)

Heckzzzz yea and he has anotha one he says if i need it its there and bulbs for days =))))))) but they are all mh lol at least i got that expense off my least for many harvests to come =)

on another note me and my pops were chatting it up today and hes low on cash so hes gonna get rid of his salt water fish, he has a massive fish tank, tha gallons are in the 100's, i have no idea how many gallons tho, its just huge lol, he commented about growing some plants in there but he commented about the heat getting way too high, would this be a good or bad idea? i say the tank is probably 9-10ft long and 3-4ft wide

you could probably rock some sort of dwc in there (personally i wouldn't want to clean the dirt out of a 100+ gallon glass tank afterwards but that the lazy stoner in me).

it would definitely be a project, you'd definitely want some sort of ventilation set up (think greenhouse effect)... but then, if you kept the tank open and set the light up *above it it could work. the issue is you'd need some sort of light barrier both from top -> bottom and all around the outside to protect the roots from light. but then, aren't there lightproof barriers you can stick right on the glass? hmmm food for thought. totally doable with enough imagination ;)

isn't the salt-water setup worth some good $$$ too?

Hellll Yea my dad even put in a solar panel to help with the drastic cost of the lights, he uses everything needed for an advanced grow room minus the light rails and reflective walls lol but i think its much more expensive and confusing because not only does he have to regulate temp and light like the outdoors but also water and salt level and the fish get sick quick and he has a giant res in the backyard he has so much water gadgets, but for the same exact reason he wants to get rid of it, the time it takes to clean that bitch is ridiculus, its needs to be clean at least weekly and that is pushing it cuz it gets all dirty within a day and he cant go on vacation cuz that shit has over flowed before and the salt can go up and all this crap, its crazy i would never in all of my ever get a fish tank lol wayyyy too much work

Oh BTW got my 400 light up =) wowwww what a difference this light is actually BLUE the other light had a blue tint but this one is straight up blue =) looks purrdy

You dont need to build a 8 ft cab to grow 8ft plants ( im just using 8ft as an example since you brought it up )

my cab is only 3ft tall

but buy doing lst or scrog , i can grow a short plant in their that will put out as much bud as a 6 to 8ft plant would

buy doing lst or scrog you expose lower bud sites to more light and then all the branches compete to be the main cola

and you end up having like 20 to 30 bud sites to where just growing a tall plant without lst or something you just have bud sites that are more at the upper branches cuz light dont get to the lower sites as well

Ok i reread one of your post and if your ballast is one of the new "digital" ones or a "switchable" one then you can use both types of bulbs but if it's just for mh then you can only run mh unless your get a conversion bulbs..

@goten i am LST 2 of my plants im probably gonna do it to all the others except the roadkill her main branch is so thick i doubt i can bend that

Thick branches can be lst`d also

just take your thumb and index finger and GENTLY start squeezing the branch ( where you want to bend it at ) until it starts to soften up

then it will be easier to lst it

sometimes you might get a split their , but that's cool it will heal and just keep on going

look at these 2 branches , they split on me after i soften them up , but she is just budding away like it never happen , i did rush it though :dunce:

( they dont always split though lol )

yeah I saw all these people doing it, and this bulge it looked hella cool.. but than when I did it i had the SAME thing.. until I looked on the other side.. looked like it was rotting from the inside, hella crazy.. i noticed the people in videos never showed THAT part hahaha

IDK im scared lol i dont wanna snap that shit, tha branch on the sativa kinda snapped, and its not a bend like yours it was a cut, she healed but it doesnt look pretty =/

like you said , she healed up , they always do lol

when i do get splits , i mix some rotting hormone in with water and get it a little thick

then i put some on the split to use as a band aid lol

it works though
