Depending on how much you need. I start small (about 10% or so, or about 2 or so inches off the block), add water, and there ya go. As far as tearing it check that link I sent you via email. Here it is for everyone, it explains exactly how to use coco and perlite in your hempy bucket:

NO!! I use white buckets, they reflect light better than black, which absorbs it. I also put two layers of white duct tape around them, so that helps with light leakage into the bucket. Some people spray that Flex Seal on their buckets. That comes in white as well.

I seeeeeee, so white is the way to go, or are my black 3.5's fine
 
I wrap my buckets in mylar, more reflective than any paint, when using bottles it's important that the roots have darkness as they can develop mold...with all the water it's holding, really has nothing to do with reflective qualities

Sure are!! I know some people who use coffee cans! I would probably either spray them with white FlexSeal or put a layer of white duct tape around them. As I said, this will reflect light and help with light leakage. You can run into a problem with black buckets absorbing light and getting warmer than white buckets. You want to keep your reservoir as cool as possible when doing hydro (hempy buckets are passive hydro). This keeps slime and root rot from forming. Also cooler water typically has higher levels of oxygen, which roots need.
 
Several times today, when I post, I get this secondary screen that makes me enter scrambled characters.....has my IP address posted below it too. Anybody else getting this? Happened on an PM too.
