You don't tear it at all, it will have a coffee ground texture, you just use it...after the after is added.

Oh alright i got ya, and then when i expand the amount i want i tear it in shreds into the bucket mixed with the perlite? sorry if it isn't catching on im a little confused lol![]()

NO!! I use white buckets, they reflect light better than black, which absorbs it. I also put two layers of white duct tape around them, so that helps with light leakage into the bucket. Some people spray that Flex Seal on there buckets. That comes in white as well.
I seeeeeee, so white is the way to go, or are my black 3.5's fine
