Update; Last Thursday I went ahead and topped the WLH

Finally got the right size tarp, that was the most opaque, and set up the light deprivation chamber. Tonight is the third night, hope they kick into flowering soon.

The Sativa's in their final spot and the Lemon Kush clones & C99 veg. They went indoors tonight,

hey Watts....how long will you keep the dark chamber going? will you just wait until you see preflowers then remove the tarp, or will you keep it up for awhile?

They have looked like this for 2 months + (basically since I got them)

Lots of hairs but no flowers. So I'm hopping this will only take 2 to 3 wks, if it's quicker all the better. I want them to be fully committed before I stop the nightly covering. + the days will be shorter in a few wks.

Beans popped on 7/19 and put in solo Hempy cups, transplanted on 7/31 into 2 gal 50-50 Perlite/Coco.

At present I have plants, 1 WW fem and 6 Cotton Candy fem/Blackberry and Grape Ape (CC/BBGA cross, not sure of the sex. Going to veg till I can determine sex then select the best 3 CC/BBGA and the WW fem, if for fact she is a fem. Using Lucas formula for Hempy. I will cover the tops of the buckets with about 1 inch of coco for blocking out the lite to the Perlite/Coco for preventing algae growth when the plants are tall enough, .

Real busy now but hope to keep you all posted.

I am using the same cabinet, and the only upgrade is I have replaced my 4" Phresh carbon filter and 4" Wind Tunnel exhaust fan with a 6" Can filter and 420 cfm Max-fan. I may be moving within the next yr+ to a more 420 friendly state or country.

This will be my first grow with the Coco Coir/Perlite mix. I know to watch the cal/mag and that the coir will hold water longer, so I will need to insure not to overwater. If anyone has experiance with the coir/perlite I would appreciate any suggestions and help.

I will be treating this grow different and not remove as much fan leaves as I did last grow and I am not sure if I will end up with three or four plants, space is limited as you know.

WW on the left the other two are CC/BBGA

Peace out,

Hey GR you don't have to worry much about overwatering with coco, it's just a matter of how you want your grow to proceed. You can water as frequently as every day if you want, and you'll see growth above the medium. If it were me I'd wait as long as possible to water, you won't see as much growth above the medium, but you'll get a lot of root growth below, and then you will see the upper growth bigger and more rapid later. I'd say those little guys could go a wk or more before they actually need to be watered.

agree Watts.....once a week is all they need in that big of bucket but what I was stupidly worried about was the water going stale or gaining pH

....so that's why I was draining my buckets every 2 or 3 day when they were young, but in retrospect it wasn't worth the effort as I broke the damn plant by tipping it too much..

anyhow, they look good gr865

ISK,

I agree and if you notice my buckets have a lower drain hole. I did this with my 4 gallon buckets with good success. Easy to flush if needed and as you say change the solution as needed.

I have always grown in FF soil. Nutes were Jacks classic. Trying out a few hempys this round.

I made these little hempys out of yogurt containers. Been watering with plain water. I also have 5 gallon buckets cut in half filled with 100% perlite and a hole 2" up from the base.

Nutes are GH Flora grow, micro, bloom, and liquid cool bloom.

Question 1 - Should I let them go a little bit longer where they are or go ahead and transplant to the 2.5 gallon hempys now?

Question 2 - If I do transplant, should I add a little "grow" to the water or continue with plain water for another week or so?

These are autos. AKR

I need to make a correction, the pics posted on the 5th in post 8104 and 8105 are the same pics and were taken on the 3rd.

Sorry for that. I noticed because I am amazed at the amount of growth over that past few days.

Note, seeds started germ on 7/15, popped and were put into Rapid Rooters on 7/19 and into the Hempy Solo cups on 7/22. They were kept under T5's until I transplanted them into the Hempy Buckets on 7/31.

Here are twp pics:
First one, from the day I transplanted them (7/31) from the Hempy cups to the Hempy buckets.

One of the 6 Cotton Candy/Blackberry&Grape Ape cross, it has been blown up in size as it was taken as a cabinet pic.

This is the same plant today 8/6

CC-BBGA 8-6-14.jpg

Is this fairly normal?

I know I did not have growth like this in either of my last two grows, I am impressed with the coir/perlite Hempy. I am not even sure if they have all reached the reservoir yet, but I think a couple have.
Taken more pics when I bring them in for the night.

I would transplant now, but you need to paint or cover the white bucket with something to keep light out of the mix or you will have problems with algae. Look at the pics of my plants, the top layer has algae starting. I am covering them with a 1 inch layer of coir later today.
I would add half strength or less of fertilizer but nothing hot as the roots are still very tender.

Thanks GR. I was thinking along the same lines. When I stumbled on this thread I just had to try the hempy. This is my first attempt. Three weeks ago this was in FFOF. I had no intention to transplant into perlite at that time. I pulled the plant, shook off the dirt, rinsed off the dirt, and placed it right in the perlite. This is an auto AKR. I'm sure I freaked her out and slowed growth. This was a really late transplant for an auto.

And here it is today about 3 weeks later.

IMG_4650.JPG

So these will be transplanted to the 2.5 gallon hempys today. Again AKRs

This is a great thread. Thanks peeps! Very pleased so far with hempys.

One is done. I'll do the other tomorrow. Splashed it will some lightly nuted water. I'll stop bugging you guys. I'm outta here. Thanks. I'll probably start my own thread on this grow in the autoflower section.

Hey be sure and water lightly a few times a day, long way for root to travel, also watch your reservoir for spoilage, with out roots removing the nute mixture it will go bad in a few days.
I normally fill the reservoir with straight pH'ed water and lightly water, with reduce strength nutes, the column the roots will travel. As the roots move down they also move out so as your plant grows begin increasing the area around the plant that you water. Again keep an eye on the reservoir, very important.

PS. You will know when the plant root reach the reservoir!

I have a quick question. I was wanting to know if I can use 1 gallon buckets for a hempy grow or would that size bucket be to small? I was thinking of using 100% perlite.
