Nice to see you working it Watt.

I am finding that larger clones, with plenty of light, might make for better, faster roots.
I have been checking out the clone of @BobBitchen and those are the two main
differences in our efforts. (that and the fact that I am a neglectful snob) He gets
crazy-white-beard roots in short order.

I look forward to the fruits of your labor. :0)

JD
i agree JD, I am cloning a few Exodus Cheese for a friend, moma was small small clones in coco, first time trying this. 4 days in, they look good.
But when I clone for my summer/fall grow they will be large clones.

Those look quite decent Sky.

I take stuff that pokes out of the plug 1/2"

What can I say, they root!

It just takes 2.5 weeks and does not result in a freaking beard.

...and I meant to write "neglectful slob" above. LOL....snob, I am not.

Thanks! I'll take the best 12 topped and lollipop and put them under a 600 watter. For my set up I don't want them growing to big in veg.

Hello
I have a [a little over] two week old Indica and I've just purchased an EC meter. I understand EC and PPM scales now but, assuming RO water, what PPM/EC should I feed my little seedling? I'd love to have some guidelines for the entire growth cycle if anyone can share :D

Well, its been a while since I have posted anything in this Forum, so I thought I would show one of my recent Hempy Grows. This is Pineapple Express In a Coco/Perlite Mix (just running all perlite now) in 2 Gallon Food Grade Containers. 4 Plants yields me 1.5lbs. under 600 watts with 1000ppm of CO2 in a sealed room. I Feed Every Morning, and that's about it.. ;-)

How often do you guys water? I have Hempies with external/outer containers (slightly bigger than the actual pot) and I noticed over-watering problems (N deficiency) when the water in the trays stands for 2-3 days. I probably watered them way too often, the runoff basically flowing in the containers IS BAD especially when it's not actively aerated.

Here is my setup:

I now added stones in the outer containers to minimize the amount of water and I will (I think) just need to water less.
(The above is an OLD picture, when the plants were very tiny). But now I noticed severe N deficiency and leaves "clawing" down which to me looks like from overwatering. And "overwatering" in Hydro/Hempies means that the roots are not getting oxygen!
(I basically always looked that I had 1-2" of water in my trays, and since the water gets stale...this is BAD...)

PLUS: I am having more or less severe algae problem...even despite me adding H202 to my water. All signs of a lack of oxygen. Dammit I thought it's not possible to "overwater" in Perlite/Vermi but this is definitely not correct. I will see how this grow goes....

Edit: System with air pump etc. I deliberately didn't do since I wanted to keep it as simple as possible. If I aerate each small container it wouldn't be Hempies anymore, is my logic. Then I could as well get a real hydro system with a tank. (Which would mean other problems like w/ emptying/changing rez)

Rusty, What an amazing grow. You've set a new record for a 2gal/10L bucket. I never thought anyone would pass jella's mark. So with such great results, why did you go back to straight perlite? Your grows are the only reason I can't definitively say you have to let the bucket dry out. You've always had such great results with the daily waterings. I'd give it a try but I just too lazy.

Thanks for the High Five Watts.. Really just went back to straight perlite cause its cleaner, less work, etc... Since I have so many things going on with so many plants at so many various levels, I am pretty much watering every day anyway, so I might as well water everything. It really only takes a couple hours in the morning, then the rest of the day is about cleanup and do my own thing. I also like to water daily just to flush out yesterdays funk and replace it with fresh, the plants seem to appreciate it and usually dont complain, but if you dont have to, dont bother :bigjoint:

Rusty,

A man of science, and I have a science question.
Can you take a piece off a leaf, that have been dried and culture it?

I have a couple of leaves off a plant I grew yrs ago that was absolutly to die for.
Strain I believe was Afghan, it is the stinkyist skunk smelling shit, a bit of a cough but a super ass stone.

Would be nice to have that one back, it was over 6 feet tall and over 6 feet wide, Gave me over two lbs off that one plant.

Unfortunately its best to culture when its alive and fresh, we need to get all of our new cuts into jars within a couple of hours. You could probably take a leaf sample and work the Callus side of things, but it take forever, and can shift genetics.

Afghan is still pretty popular at the seed banks. We have been ordering seeds for years, and its actually gotten easier. Customs hasn't snagged our shipment in quite some time, to where a year ago and before, we would get the green tape a lot. Just something to think about :)

Thanks, that's to bad.
Oh yes I know there is seed, but this plant was landrace, well I assume so as it was over 40 yrs ago. Buddy was with the gov, and he brought some stash back on one of his trips to Afghanistan so I am sure it was the real deal. Thirty years after I grew that plant I was at a a college reunion and we were having a drink and talking. Some one ask if the group remembered that pot and it was like I had some that day, they did nothing but praise that grow. Was cool.

The weather has been so nice and I wanted to clean my cabinet so I put my mothers outside for a few days. They are loving the sunshine. Only problem is we are at the time of spring when the day and night are about 12/12.
Here is the little White Rhino mother, LOL
I about lost her a couple of times to to neglect, she is a tough ol' bitch.

Something I have noticed, if you look at the tip of the new growth there is no burn, the Exodus Cheese is the same way no tip burn. I am wondering if it's not the lamps that are causing the tip burn instead of nutes. Just wondering!

I sure miss my hobby, going on a long deserved vacation next week for two to three weeks and will start my fall grow vegging when I return. Changing growing techs this next grow, straight coco, DTW/ with drip irrig. or Blumats. Doing a vertical three plants 400W and will be tying the plants to a 18X40" upright screens.

I did think about going hempy with this but I will not be around enough to keep them watered.

Time for an update. I flipped on 4/29 started with 10/14 and the pure sativa's jumped right into flower. Out of the 2 Malawi I got 1 boy and 1 girl, probably a good thing I only have 3. They are stretching to the max even after 2 toppings There's no way you could say the Malawi is a tight node plant, one of the Zam's is fairly tight for a sativa the other is a stretcher. Stretch should be over in a wk, I hope.

Day 9 Zam's on left Malawi on right

are you doing an outdoor grow this summer?

Something essential and important said in Wattsaver's Soilponic post, something which you cannot find in any "official" Hempy guide out there.

That the size/volume of the bucket and therefore the internal reservoir is *very important*:

"Well you need a rez that is small enough to be used up in a short enough period of time to not have the need to use recirculation, airstones, chillers, adjust ph during the life span of the rez, add H2O2 or other rez cleaners."

It only takes a somewhat larger reservoir where the water might sit one or two days longer than it should, this leads to massive problems in a passive Hydro system. My current grow is using external totes for each bucket, so it's sort-of experimental...it works "alright" but from my experience now I would probably not use external totes any more but keep the reservoir inside the bucket like the classic Hempies.

Good to see you rocking the Malawi Watt. I am growing my first, a bit behind
yours I think.

You seem to be jumping into vertical quite properly GR. Good luck.

Thanks ISK I still have a long road ahead. As far as outdoors the wife really doesn't want to me to limit her hot tub access this summer. For now I'm saying no but I may not be able to resist.

Hey JD. I have always perfered the sativa buzz. But I haven't grown out that many pure landrace strains, with so many amazing hybrids being that the top of the hype. I've watched several Malawi grows and well I wanted some too. Best of luck with your grow and I'd like to compare our results in a few months. My seeds came for "Seeds of Africa" Which label did you get your seeds from?

Mine are from Ace Seeds.

I tried Ace's Purple Haze but Mohican and FLKeys really rocked
that when I give it to them.

I also got Golden Tiger from Ace in the tent right now. I started a tiny
plant to see it I can keep it in a tent.

Good luck!

maybe consider a couple of dwarfs, as they don't get much over 18 inches
