World Of Hempy

Your early pics make it appear like there are only 3 plants there....THATS A LOT OF PLANT for those containers...
Roots could have a hard time keeping up with supporting all that late growth...If your #'s are good and you still had this, larger containers could very well make the issue go away.....More roots dont need to work as hard..YT

Hey YT! Have been following your progress across different forums and have really enjoyed the pics. Have done a lot of research and looking like hempy is the way to go.

Curious, how many buckets do you have setup? Unsure if those are 5 gal? What kind of yield do you get in your buckets?

Is Hempy good for SCROG on a larger scale yield (something like 1 lb plants)? Would I be better using hempy and growing taller (for that kind of yield)? My best guess is that I would need a 7 gal bucket for that size, but could be totally wrong.

Also want to shout out to the hempy community. I'm currently a "couch grower" and looking to get into the real deal. Have been working side by side with a friend for a bit getting the basics down, but he is using soil. The transfer and the headache do not look like my cup of tea!

yea its pretty awesome to see this thread still thriving! id love to post some budporn but i dont do hempy anymone sadly. im strictly soil now a days since its easier to maintain imo.

That makes sense! Going to try and start with hand watering and upgrade to reservoirs (with a float to essentially water as needed) once I have a system down is the plan. I have heard they drink a lot, and really don't wanna end up watering every day if I can help it!

sounds like you’ll have a nice setup! ive always done small grows and with hempy i was watering every other day! with soil its more like every 3-4 days. also me being a stoner if i forget to water with hempy its a disaster but soil lets me have my delayed reaction and still get by with some sticky nugs

Did you make any progress on the mag deficiency? I also have it for the first time and not sure why. I wasn't surprised at first since I tried running Mega Crop without Calimagic and Epsom in 70/30 Perlite/coco. It seemed ok after I started adding them and did an Epsom spray. Three weeks ago I changed to Jack's 321 with calmag and Epsom but have mag def again.
Hi sorry for the late reply, i get lost in the forums sometimes. Didn't change anything actually, just continued making sure I get slot of Runoff. Hope that helps

Your crops BUDS look ok....Although ANY deficiency will show in your leaves 1st....any imbalance will effect the outcome, even if minor.....yeah, a 5L pot supports about a large plantlet....I grew in pots that size once, but each sat in a cutout in a foiled foam board, which covered a plastic lined 2x4 frame that ALWAYS had 2 inches of water in it..the water was HIGHLY circulated by pumps I added...I dubbed it, shallow water culture sys..(SWC)..since they always had access to water, a decent size plant could grow in that size container....With a DTW thats pushing the limits, and isn't why your watering Twice a day....BUT, that frequent of waterings SHOULD keep your #'s more stable than if using 3-5 gallon and watering every 2-3 days....are you using tap water?...I never use RO water....Tap works better for me.... Municipal tap in this region runs about 180ppm, which is fine and contains calcium already...Calmag issue are uncommon is your starting with a quality nute....I HAVE NEVER had a calmag issue using DynaGro (or their bloom formula)..They make some but is targeted toward RO water users....Back in the day, when nutes were not nearly as well balanced, a tbsp of epsom salts fixed it every time (magnesium sulfate)....make sure your ppms are supporting mature plants...If so, most quality nutes will give your plants everything they need....I run my pH at 5.7...PERFECT # for DTW soilless mixes....When that pH is tuned, your plants WILL gobble up the nutes, and show it with lush, green, blemish free leaves...
If you are using RO water, add the calmag....Your RIGHT THERE cause they are far from hurting....A little tuning is all thats needed...YT...
Thanks for the tips. I don't use ro just tap. Its very low in ec, 0.07.
Currently using 50% strength a+b and 33% calmag. Around 1.0 ec total.
Strain is northern light, 100% indica.

Really fancy having a go with hempys but have a couple of questions firs

if i start clones routed in riot cubes
Do i fill the 2"res to start with?
If i go for perlite and vermiculite and water a small amount every other day will the medium hold enough moisture?
How much do i water untill the roots have gon all the way down
How will i know when the roots have got all the way down to the res.
Thanks all

this is the only tricky part about hempy. i watered slightly but frequently until roots hit the res at the bottom. you will notice that once the roots hit the bottom, the growth rate takes off. or you might be able to see the roots thru the hole.

I just move my rooted clones from my 27 gallon cloner into 3 gallon dollar tree trash cans with a 3/4" hole drilled in the side 2" from the bottom. I let my clones root thoroughly for about 14 days before they are removed from the cloner. A large swath of roots accelerates growth considerably versus a few hairs popping outta the stems. Patience is key. I clip my clones long with lots of stem. By the time they are removed from my cloner and being transplanted into the 3 gallon hempy buckets the root ball goes all the way to the res on day 1. After 3 weeks they get a final up pot to a 5 gallon hempy. Mostly they drink water every other day in #4 chunky perlite. Some monsters drink daily and is an indicator of a massive root mass and a very healthy plant.

I start my seedlings in soil 16 oz styrofoam cups. Once they have a good root mass in about 2 weeks they are transplanted to 3 gallon hempy buckets in #4 perlite. 775-825ppm ph adjusted to 5.8 and you'll be right as rain. Hydro fertilizer. Nothing organic. My dollar tree trash can hempys are maybe only 1 gallon. I don't believe they are 3g. If you up pot to too large a container you will severely stagnate growth. Just don't do it :)

Have any of my fellow hempy growers experienced a difference in flavor or burn qualities using different mediums and fertilizers? I only flowered 1 batch of ladies with jack's, but it was the best tasting hydroponic pot I've ever grown. Used maxi bloom for about a year and a half, and the bud does not taste as good nor does it have the same burn qualities. The jack's 5-12-26 burned to a clean gray ash and was exploding with flavor. The flavor in your mouth after a hit was the same as the smell in your nose from the flower's aroma. Nobody could tell it was hydroponically grown. It was that good. With maxi there's no issue with visual quality or yield quantity, but the shit just doesn't smoke or taste as good as the jack's 5-12-26 grown crop.

Am I on an island all alone here or has anyone else observed a variance in burn / flavor quality with different types of hydroponic fertilizer's used? I'm very close to switching my flower room back to jack's. I'm only about 2.5 weeks in. It's definitely not too late for jack's to positively influence the outcome of the crop.
