Great info and pics again Dalek.

Your Moms are a good example of the topping. Whats that white stuff surrounding the Rockwool? It doesnt look like Perlite.

I'm with you on the 'Hot Shot Pest Strip'. ..... After reading about them on RUI, I ordered a packet from the U.S. and it was 100% effective, killing all the Spidermite I had.

I also regularly use the Hot Shots No Pest Strips regularly in my Veg tent. Just put them in a Plastic zip lock baggie if you are gonna be working in the garden all day.

Thanks Moeb.Happy to contribute.

The resulting 2 branches from a topping, are bent over, and away from each other. The shift in gravity to the horizontal branch creates more shoot sites, and opens inner canopy to more light.

Cool beans for the 100% spidermite kill. Those strips do work.

The white stuff is a severe case of PM.

How to use Polyfil as a medium in a Hempy cup.

Seed
Take a 6,12,or 24oz cup,and make about a 1/4" (.6 cm) hole,2" (5cm) up from bottom of cup.Fill cup with Polyfill to
about 1/2" (1.3cm) from top.Take previously prepped, seeded Rockwool starter cube, and put on top of Polyfil.Add extra Polyfill to center, and make cube stabil. If Rockwool is in danger of drying out quickly, just place a Ziplock baggie over cup for moisture retension.Remember to keep Rockwool moist not saturated.Keep ph'ed water or 1/16-1/8th strength nutrient solution in res till plant establishes with visible growth.

Clone
For clones with at least 3-4" (8-10cm) roots.Take cup,and fill with medium to bottom of drain hole.Take clone, and wrap with polyfil for a snug fit in cup.Make sure to leave at least 1/4-1/2" (.6-1.3cm) of roots exposed from bottom of wrap.Place wrap
with roots resting on res (RRR),and fill around to make stabil if needed.Give clone lite feed, light intensity, and work up slowly.

Transplant
Tilt drain cup.Pop out plant, and place in (previously filled to bottom of drain hole) bigger cup with RRR method (roots resting on res.Fill around to center and stabilise.Plant should take normal feed and light, reduce when in doubt.

*If plant gets heavy, and compacts polyfil pushing taproot closer to res? This is unhealthy for the plant, but easily resolved.
Tilt drain/pop out.Fill cup with new medium to bottom of drain hole then RRR (rest roots on res).It is very important to keep an airzone between top of res to bottom of taproot,or plant will drown,or become susceptable to disease.

Polyfill can be harvested from a throw away couch.Wear gloves, and watch for discoloration (an elderly pet may have lost it's bladder control or something worse).Put in sturdy trash bags, push out most air,and close airtight for a week(starve potential bugs of oxygen). Before initial use, soak in a mild bleach solution for about an hr or 2.Polyfil is ready when the bleach is completely rinsed out.Any pocket concentrations of bleach will kill your plant,so wring out and plainwater soak till no more bleach smell.I throw away any Polyfill with roots in it when done.Throw away couches are free.

It will take extra ingenuity to use for larger plants,so not recommended.
Polyfil is highly resistant to insect attack (Root Aphid larvae expend alot of energy trying to move thru medium).
Polyfill gives more airflow to the air zone (area between top of res to bottom of taproot) than Perlite.
Couch harvested Polyfil gets repurposed before landfill.
I never had any complications with 6-8 mo old mothers before clone replacement.
Watch out for debris dropped in from the manufacturer (ie rusty staples/nails etc).
Polyfill can be bought from craft stores,or taken from pillows, stuffed animals etc.
For an experiment fill to bottom of drain hole with your favorite medium, and air zone with Polyfill.
For an experiment take your favorite medium, and amend with,or make Polyfill layers.
For an experiment transplant established Polyfil medium plant into soil.
For an experiment replace net pot Hydroton with Polyfil (may have to make plant stabil with string as it gets bigger?).
Polyfil is ph inert, and easily flushes out build up of nutrient chem salts.

The lights are making the plants look yellower than they are. All the same I want to green them up a bit. So far Ive only feed twice @ 1/4 strength solution.

I'm going to mist with a weak Epsom Salts spray and increase to a half dose veg solution (Vitalink Max A+B).

I'm waiting for my 10 'Ken's Grand Daddy Purple' to pop. Also waiting to pop are the 'Attitude' freebies, '1 x O.G Kush, 1 x Trainwreck, 1 x Chemdog'.

Nice. Do you defoliate your plants? Man you beat me to it in buying GDP. I'm going to wait this weekend so I can get the attitude promo. I want to try a side project for fun. I want to get a bcnl producer and grow some kens GDP or DNA's l.a. Confidential sog style. Mean while I'm still new to this site as I'm from a different site so posting pics on the other site isn't a problem. I can't find where I can post my pics of my topped moms.

Damn, there a promo ? .. maybe I'll have to get some more. That was my first internet buy, and I was impressed. Attitude are cool.

I'm really too early to start defoliating my 24hr plants. They need all those fans for root production. .. (Actually on 1 plant I took a fan leaf off to see how it would effect the lower branch). ... I DO defoliate/shape my Moms but not for 2-3 weeks.

GDP looks so nice man (from online pics). I can't wait to get them going. The seeds were larger and fatter than most, and had an amazing speckled colouring too them. I don't know how this translates to the smoke but I like healthy looking seeds. ....... LA. Con is proper, so they say, not gone there yet.

Whats up with posting pics? Can you not just show them here at W.O.H?

@ Dalek. I read on your other post about the poly, and I'm glad you expounded on it here. How would you rate the capillary action of the poly compared to perlite or coco?? And how do you think it would respond in a larger application?? Like 10" deep and 12" in dia?

Now I don't understand the RRR concept. Sounds like you are trying to keep the roots from seeking and setting into the bottom of the rez. Especially with your use of hydroton below the hole, which has a lower capillary action than perlite. So I'm assuming you need to keep your rez relatively full all the time?? I know that when I invert and empty a 3 gal bucket I have a full mat of roots at the bottom. So please enlighten me more on this RRR concept, especially if I'm way off track.

View attachment 2357515image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgOkay here are some pics of my moms from seed 8/22/12. I topped all seven of them several days ago. I started them all in my aero veg stinkbud unit using rapid rooters. As of now there are all squished in a secret jardin tent dr60 under a sun blaze cool blue 4 lamp that only produces 8,000 lumens. I'm in the process of getting a bigger tent to house my moms and future clones. I have a bad boy 8 lamp just waiting. I switched all for aero to dirt (fox farms happy frog). Sorry for crappy pics.

SWEET !!! LOL. You aint 'effing around are you ? LOL . Love it.

You'll have a job blacking them out.
i know right. I think I'm just going to spray paint them a little bit at a time till I'm ready. I have a total of about 140 bottles. Right now I have 2xmagnum xxxl's. I'm gonna need to buy another one so that I can have three to light 128 2l's. I was doing my math and I think I can do 75 to 80 under two of my magnums. My target goal will be to average 15 to 16 grams per plant. If I can average that I will be stoked.

WOH .. Very nice! Thanks Man for sharing.

Just a thought. ... What I might do would be to strategically remove some of those HUMUNGOUS fan leaves. They look super pretty and it will hurt you more than the plant but hows about giving some of the lower stems some of those 8000 lumens?

Big fan leaves would be important if you were growing Bud, but for moms we're growing clones. ... whats your thoughts?

Where theres a will theres a way.

I'm on the same journey buddy, lets see what happens.

Okay I'll remove the big fan leaves and lower my light tomorrow. As of the avg of 15 grams per plant there's a guy in a different forum doing so with out co2 but he defoliates on day 21 and 45 from rooted clone straight to 12/12

Sounds like 420fied's method.

It might be something to consider. I would'nt want to do it without understanding the logic behind it.... also the technique may be strain specific.

420fied does C99, I'm going to have to order some soon.

So i took a page out of your book Moebius. Bought 30 one gallon water jugs and two rolls of gorilla tape. Harvest for me is next saturday. My bluedreams will be coming down a little early but i want another run before christmas. Next run im doing 20 or so 5-8inch clones and abougg untit 15 jack frost x og kush from seed ( hoping to get at least 7 females) seedlings have just shown maturity so its good timing. Got them in their gallon containers under a 90 watt led and 150 hps vegging until sunday so i can clean my tent out. And a little branch off my silver haze x? that is showing milky and looking done at 50 days

A question if i may...did you cover the very bottoms of your containers? I taped them all the way down but havent taped the very bottom..figured i could better see whats up in the res and that light shouldnt be an issue. Wha do you think?

Ideally we would black out the bottoms too. I tried it however with paint an its quiet laborious and boring to do, and tends to peel off anyhow.

My (sort of) solution was to keep the buckets in a larger blacked-out tub with a 6mm plywood lid .... It works, No algae. 21 hempys per tub.

If not doing dozens and dozens, I would still paint out the bottoms. ..... The method that worked for me (when I tried) was to dip the bottom of the bottles in black paint, let the excess drain off, then place on a hard surface. .... You get a nice thick covering with dipping as opposed to painting out with a brush or spraying.

EDIT:
I'm 100% with you on fitting in a big run before Christmas. LOL.

oh ... Without blacking out, the bottom WILL turn green.

Yeah they are getting a week under some hps and led light. If they arent rooted out enough by the time i put them inthe flower area ill give them another week. They have pretty well defined rootmasses already. Ive had the cuttings in semi stasis for 2 weeks already before transplant. Just low light and low nutes. You can see they ate up their bottom leaves. Since its a 4x4 flowering area and ill have close to 30 plants i dont want them too big....oh and i have no clue as to the growth habits of the seedlimgs lol
