Day 35/week 5 funny how the same genetics given differing variables can react so differently. The two plants on carpet are same strain same size one is in soil with perlite hemy res the other is just soil core with 100% perlite. The perlite plant is luscious green while soil plant yellowing heavily...granted i fed my soil girls lightly first two weeks of flower since they are in FFOF. My from seed crosses are a bouquet of citrus smells with thick donkey cocks just now starting to drip with resin. Im pleased with the skunk nice lil colas and the sand widow is as gooey as you could imagine but small quarter (the coin) and nickel sized buds. Cheers

Looking really good buddy.
On my first couple of Hempy runs, I couldnt understand why my plants where ending up shorties ... I then realized it was due to the size of my clones and their roots. ... Larger clones + Larger Roots = Larger 2L plants.
They still look AMAZING. .. I like the perfectly formed look of them... and a plus will be that the light will reach all the way through. lol
edit:
I just realised youre working from seed. So I take it they're 12/12 from seed? ... that will always make them shorter unless you choose a stretchy strain.

yeah from seed ,ive a rocklock thats in the corner thats twice the size of older ones and one tiny one ,everytime i do a batch of cheese i always get one short one thats always ready early .can be handy .1st time 12/12 with hempy usually give them 3 wk veg ,this way you only need a tent ,straight in from seed under a 400 hps which probably works better than 3 wks under my 50 watt veg light.

but when you do decide to take clones, you won't look back. Just one small bonsai mom would supply you with as many as you needed. As for rooting the clones, you wouldnt need much more space than a shoe box.
... just planting the seed in your mind.
Of course, you'll know what works best for you.

cheers ,i have a little veg box the first few hempys were veged 3 wks then after 2 more i took clones ,they all rooted pretty quickly and i did quite well with them thc bombs they were ,they grew quite a few branches though and the buds were really clustered at the bottom too near the perlite ,but still worked well .moving soon to a bigger flat so this will be my last batch until i move and suss the new place out ,if i had the space and privacy id have 3 tents ,1 veg 1 flower 1drying ,mutli strain perpetual lol !Cool. I get ya.

Well damn looks like I need a new filter. The one I have is only on it's third grow but I vent through a dryer vent and my girl just called me at work to tell me that the whole side of our house stinks like the grow room. Kind of weird as I usually get at least a year out of them. Oh well I keep some Ona gel for problems like this and had her stuff some into the vent until tomorrow when I can get a new filter.

Hey WoH. Just an update into my micro scrog. These were transplanted 2 weeks ago tomorrow. They took a bit to hit the rez, the blueberry most of all, but I am getting some decent growth now and I'm starting to train. The middles of these girls are really starting to open up and I am getting some good branching. Just need the BB to catch up a bit.

Check to make sure it is not a leak or tear in the exhaust line. I'm not exactly sure how you have yours set up but have heard of others replacing their filter only to find out later it was just a leak somewhere. You are correct tho, Filters should last approx a year but the cheaper ones need to be tamped around 9-10 months to get a couple more months out of them. Hope you get it resolved with no issues.
Btw, Also wanted to comment on your ladies in the last pix. Very nice

Good advice and thanks dude. I do have my 6 inch ducting going to a 4 inch reducer in order to vent out my 4
Inch dryer vent. Maybe the clamp came loose.

I'm thinking after this grow I might try a 2 liter sog experiment. I want to run an even number split into 2 groups and water one set pretty regularly and let the other set dry out really good. I always let my buckets go noticeably dry before I water, still only 3 days with my small bucket size, and don't really have many options running only 2 to 3 plants to try anything different. Just want to mess around and maximize my hempy ability.
Anyone who grows hempys knows the difference between a dry bucket and a DRY bucket just by lifting and feeling the weight. I let mine go pretty dry before I water then I flush every 10-14 days and really let them dry for 4-5 days before I hit them with nutes.
I would like to know what WoH's opinion is on this. Do most of you water daily? Or are there a few dryers out there too?

I'm a noob to hempy but not to hydro. I water everyday, not because I have to but because I know I can. I think it keeps salts down because I get runoff everyday. It's more expensive nute-wise cuz I do "waste" some although it goes into house plants. Watering daily is definitely more time consuming for me especially doing it by hand. It's all a matter of what works for you!

I don't water daily. ... I can only 'possibly' imagine someone doing so with Perlite but with everything else IMO thats too frequent.
Ive been really busy lately and have quite a few plants so mines are getting fed every 3-4 days atm. ..... during the heavy budding stage they may get fed every 2 days depending on how much they drink.
With good ventilation plants will drink quicker as the moisture around the leaf is blown away constantly. ... this encourages the plant to drink more. .. which is good.

There may be other unknown variables that explain why some water more frequently than others. .. for all I know height above sea-level could be a factor ... but certainly, different strains drink different amounts.

I would definitely agree with you about the salt runoff. I try to combat this by flooding my buckets when I water, plugging the drain hole with tape and filling till the perlite is floating. And like Watt said I tip my buckets to try and empty the rez of runoff.
BTW love that DIY lazy suz. I wonder if you could hook a small motor with a belt drive to auto turn that. I might hafta pirate your idea in the future man it's a good one.

I water every day past week 4 of flower. It is definitely a lot of work but being new to hempy too but experienced in hydro it just scared me to let roots dry out. It depends on plant size and how many fans/ how much exhaust you have too like Moe says. Crazy that you can go 3 to 4 or even 2 days in two litres though.

Yeap it is crazy. 4 days they show NO sign of damage but the Hempy is as light as a feather. ... If I left them for another 6 hours they would probably wilt. ... Ideally I would hit for 2-3 days. I do like to leave a little moisture in there.

Root Hairs
The root hairs are where most of the nutrients and water are absorbed. The root tip produces new cells on a daily basis, and thus also root hairs. When the plant is short of water and/or nutrients, it will devote more assimilates (photosynthesis energy)to producing more cells in the root tip. This also generates more root hairs until the root has found what the plant needs (more water or nutrients). The oldest root hairs will then die off.
In practice, as the medium gets drier, the root starts looking for water and will produce more cells, and thus more root hairs. Absorption capacity increases, because more root hairs are produced. But the youngest root hairs will enter even more “moist” soil. The plant can still take up water and sometimes even more! This is why the general advice is to grow on the dry side: when you water, some of the root hairs become redundant. To limit the energy-loss (dissimilation energy), the oldest root hairs will die off.
If you give the plant too much water, all the root hairs will die off. Effectively, the roots drown and it takes at least three days before a root tip has produced enough new cells with root hairs. The dying off of root hairs also happens after repotting the plants or after moving them very roughly. So when this is the case, go gently on your climate control the first 3 days. And pay good attention to the watering: don't overdo it but on the other hand, don't let the plant dry out too much.

Yeah even watering daily my pots are very light and dry. When I was growing nft 90% of the roots were wet constantly and I've never seen faster growth or fatter buds.
