Would 170 gph be straight for a 4 site rdwc ?

Should be good if you add air stones. You want to regulate at least 12x per hour and have a multi-port waterfall if you don't add air.
Thinking bout doing the water fall effect into each bucket , maybe with air stones aswell the more the better

That's what I would do. I almost ditched the air stones and said fug it, I don't want to find out the hard way that I don't have enough o2.
Yea that's the thing about these o2 is mandatory anywayz what you think are compatible strains to run together in it . Any past experience? Maybe should start another thread...... hmmm

That's a tough one. Anymore I run short plants with short plants, and tall with tall. Then it's up to you to train and manipulate for an even canopy. I will say I switched to cobs a while back, and everything is growing more compact and tighter nodes than I got out of HID'S.

Hi Kingbush,
When I first got into hydro...I used the EcoPlus 396 for no other reason then I liked the number. Big fan of the Chev big block 396.

As luck would have it...it was perfect for my need which was Ebb and Flow and was used as a submersible. It can also be used dry and mounted inline. Oh...and it pumped the solution up to the tray rapidly and with authority.

Not sure on RDWC...does it run intermittently or continuous? Using it submerged? Heat in res is an issue so keeping it small might be a good thing.
Cheers,
JD

Not true. Airstones can't even come close to what waterfalls can do. They're pointless. Ran them for years and now I don't have a single one.
Only reason you should use air pumps is if you're doing shallow water culture. Which I do

Wouldn't it be beneficial to run both water fall and air stones at the same time ? I grow dwc and the airstones alone give me rapid growth, waterfall is a bonus wouldn't you think ?

just to give another idea, i used 3 27gal totes for my rdwc (1 was a control, 2 plants per in the other 2).

i used a submersible pump into a tee to a waterfall into each tote. no airstones. had plenty of DO
I agree that the waterfall is more than enough to provide me with the growth I'm looking for, so leave out the airstones ? Just thought it would be nice for my girls to get best of both worlds I guess :(

it's just your preference but waterfalls produce way more DO than airstones. that's why ponds and fountains use the waterfall effect, it's not just cause it looks cool

No. Water can only reach a certain maximum Dissolved Oxygen percentage and waterfalls get it there no problem. If you use a chiller and keep water at 66-68*F too, you can guarantee your waters fully saturated.
