would a 3.5ft x 2.5ft x 8fthigh area be enough for 6 plants?

I use three gallon buckets, they are a foot across the top. You should be able to fit six plants in there - but it won't leave you room to move around, be prepared to have to bring them out for any work you need to do with them.
