That's an uneducated answer. Visit the LED section OP and you will find a lot of help with LED panel selection. You can easily reproduce the HID lighting in a 8x10 grow and yes the up front cost is high but the advantages over HID are significant enough to overcome the higher costs.

LEDs cover a fixed foot print of your grow space at a specific height (umol'/s: more info) and just like HID come in different wattages. Many experienced growers on RIU use LED and like me have replaced their HID fixtures. I think LED gets cost prohibitive on larger scale grows but in your application this could be a viable solution. At least something to consider that would remove the risk of fire, risk of heat signatures and detection, no bulb replacements, less money on ventilation equipment, and lower the huge electric consumption, just to name a few benefits.

Good luck, I'm sure you will find a solution that works best for you.
Thanks very informative.

The only question I have is, well when you say they lower energy consumtion...wouldn't a 600w led and a 600w hps use the same energy? Or is less wattage needed for led to produce same results?

They use the same wattage. If you have an array of 200 three watt LEDs, it will use 600W of juice. The benefit is they are more efficient by providing the wavelengths that plants utilize for photosynthesis.
