Carbon Filters work by using super fine virgin charcoal that literally filters out odor particles from the air. If odor is an issue for you, you cannot get any better odor control than a carbon filter.

Activated Carbon Filter

Activated Carbon Filters are constructed with a "packed bed" design to give consistent performance, long life (12 to 18 months), and are completely maintenance free. Sorry gypsy but I'm 50/50 with them. I think the carbon filters are a rip-off. The 6" fan with 8 lbs of carbon and the little 4" 4 lbs carbon are whimpy. There is no way u can pull a decent cfm through these. Look closely at the specs of more popular filters. . U need .1 seconds time for the stank to pass thru the charcoal and 4lbs or 8 lbs wont do it at cfm's over 100. So I don't know why they push for those big fans wityh them. I have the 6" and it sucks. I have to put my 400 cfm down to about 50 cfm for it to work. I would recommend at least 14 lbs charchol if u want to run cfms 100 on up. However, I got a ebb and grow for 400 from them which rocked!! All and all HTG is great. Just be carefull. They are a business u know.. :twisted:

Well.. I have to say you have a point..

I buy my filters closer to home because of shipping costs... so an upgrade on the filter may be called for..

But as you say... all in all... HTG is a good place to buy...

But then again.. for that price...

A "good/heavy" filter will run you more than that WITHOUT a fan...

..
