i see a lot of posts that talk about putting a lot more light into a 6' by 6' space ... like even (2) 1000w HPS bulbs.
Maybe that'd be okay of space were the limiting factor.
For me, electrical consumption usually tends to be the limiting factor. So i -deffinitely- try to get each HPS to cover its own 6' by 6' area. As far as getting the most yield possible from a set amount of electrical usage in an unlimited space... i think that size is about ideal. And if you have more than one light in an area, the the lights obviously overlap a bit... and there is less 'falling off' around the 'edges'.
(EDIT) and i wouldn't knock the advice that any of the real growers here give. If you just take one of their suggestions out of context.. then its like hearing part of a recipe.. and maybe you'll end up adding sugar to your fajitas. But whatever they are doing, in its totality, is obviously working for them.
