I think your friend is trying to say that there is too much variability in the genetics of cannabis. The strains get crossed so often that the phenotypes of a certain strain that made it popular might be rarely found in the offspring.
Apple trees are the same. If you want a red delicious apple tree then you must buy a clone, because if you plant the seeds from the red delicious apple then the resulting tree would likely produce apples that would be very different from the apple that you ate.

I understand all fruit trees start as saplings or clones. I have never sprouted a loquat trees from seeds and think only avacado starts like as a seed.

well since there's no such thing as a sherbert cannabis strain available in a seed from, that would lead one to think that it's a clone only..

I have Dutch Passion Strawberry Cough. It does not taste like strawberries, well, the tiny buds kind of do, but it sure does smell like strawberries.

A lot of things can effect the aroma and taste. Phenotype, the color spectrum of the light being used, organic and what type of nutrients and growing style. Another thing that can have a strong effect on the smell and taste is if the buds have been stored in a sealed container and allowed to naturally decarb. This takes about 4 months.

With my SBC, after it naturally decarbes, the aroma is so strong, I can smell it through the solvent when I do a 99% iso extraction! The only strain I have that I can smell over the alcohol, but it has to be naturally decarbed or I won't get that intense aroma.

If I am not mistaken, the smell and flavor is made up mostly of the terpenes.

Yes, the picture on the right is fully dry. Thank you.

With the SBC I kind of like it a little moist, same with my Querkle. They are a lot more smooth and enjoyable to me that way.

For some reason, all of the designer seed strains I have grown, except for Qush, taste harsh and crappy when they are bone dry. The old school strains I grew from import bag seed, those were awesome, the more dry, the better. Luckily I still have one of them, my 4G strain. She is picky on the type of light and growing technique she will do best with.

My apologies for the ramble, just topping off the holiday with a joint of 4G.
