WTF? Same seed packet, 3 different looking plants. Normal?

These plants all came from a packet of Tropicana Cookies F2. Only 5 out of the 12 made it through germinaiton & 2 of those were male.

It seems very odd to have this amount of variation.

The runt - Dark green, a little bushier, less uniform, really stunted growth right from the seed.

Middle of the pack - Nice & green. Good & healthy but not the best growth rate.

Big Mama - Much faster growth, more color, and maturing faster than the other two. Also the only one I was able to clone successfully.

My last grow I had 5 plants and they were all different..........from the same pack of seeds.
One had orange pistils and finished early, one had pink pistils, 2 doubled in height and the other 3 had little stretch.
It happens........the only way to have the exact same plants is to use clones from the same mother.

I was happy the Big Mama clone survived. I hope the smoke is as good as the hype. I'm getting lazy & cloning takes more effort and resources.

Your growing f2s they have the greatest variation is why theres 3 different phenos id call that very normal plus its a multipolyhybrid so lots of different genetics are present

I have 5 runtz "strain" at 4 wks of bloom and 3 look pretty close in growth. But the fragrance is totally different. Then I have one sativa leaner and one that is bushy and a real nice structure. Kind of og smell. The tall one will probably take forever to finish. ymmv

Plants look good!!! Welcome to the world of phenotypes, some breeders won't have much variation, some will vary widely, that's what makes this plant so interesting.
As stated above, if your looking for uniformity, clones from the same plant.
A group of us all grew out the same breed last season, and no 2 plants remotely resembled another, mine turned a deep purple, almost black, covered in frost, 3 were bright green, and one turned so red, you would have swore it was an old "Panama Red" all the plants and smoke turned out great, and the tastes varied widely. It's part of the fun growing and watching the nuances of the plant come to fruition.

Personally i like variation as they say variety is the spice of life its the same reason i go from seed every time i think its more fun than vs clones that you can predict more

Usually in F2s, a bit of variation should be found given the parents because this is where you're going to find homogenous recessive combinations in plants (so maybe that's why there's that one with some slow mutated growth, but you also have Big Mama).

It's normal. I sometimes get lucky and get a "consistent" strain that has all the same pheno for the most part.. This has only happened to me a couple times, most recently with ETHOS Planet of the Grapes, all the seedlings are consistent so far..

Is it lazy selling F2's etc, can't they go through all the variants and just sell me the stable strains from them. Trying to think of a reason I would want a pack of mixed results.

I see, I prefer they pheno hunt then I'll select the best growing but guess some like to hunt away. Are they cheaper since they aren't a stable strain and hard to breed off?
