Hey guys here's the deal Rae and I were potting up our p98 bubba yesterday and the GD rootball fell apart basically ripping most of the beautiful white roots. Normally I wouldn't stress it too much but we were planning on flipping her in 3-4 weeks. So Rae finished the pot up job while I cussed and freaked out. So the question is would you go ahead and flip her to flower in 4 weeks? I am mostly worried about how she will do in flower and I really don't want to waste too much space with a plant that may not produce. Picture is from this morning she looks pretty good. Thanks for the input Colorado patients!

The clone was in rock wool and after the bottom of her roots sheared off there were still roots at the bottom of the rock wool. Albeit very tiny roots, so thus the question to everyone "what the fuck would you do?" Just looking for people's experience with this and how it turned out for them.

Some people actively yank their pots out and trim the shit out of their root balls.... I cant imagine your whoopsie cause more stress than than. What would I do? Full speed ahead flower her in a month. These little bastards can even recover from a broken main.

Sahtiva yeah I have broken branches and such but never see this shit happen. Thanks for the advice man we are going forward with her.

I'm with Sahtiva. Full steam ahead! In three weeks you should have a solid rootball again.

I would definitely give her some myco if some sort. My personal preference being Great White...

oh can you explain the reasoning behind trimming roots? Does it ultimately make a difference in the quality if flower as well as yield?

The reasons I have trimmed roots in the past are either to remove dead roots or to stimulate more branching of the roots. Before switching to Smart Pots for veg, I regularly "striped" the rootball when repotting to a bigger container. Striping means cutting the rootball in vertical stripes around the outside. That move encourages the roots that had spiraled around the plastic container to branch out and create more feeding tips. Smart Pots do basically the same thing by air pruning the root tips as they grow through the fabric.

Medshed has got you on this. Not an issue unless more that 50% of roots damaged. When replanting I do the same as Med. Disrupt the growth pattern of the roots. I literally tear the bottom off sometimes depending on compaction, then loosen/knock off 30% of media make a mond in the middle of pot drape roots over mound, add back media and top up. Be sure to feed the shit out of them after. This will help with shock and stress.

Do you have other plants of the same strain in the same age/size range that you can compare growth from here on? It would give a lot of insight into root ball trimming...
By the way, welcome to the community both of you (well HB too, but i already knew him..) you are a great addition to the group!

Ok wow, would have never guessed this, but I shouldn't be surprised as it sounds like they are very forgiving girls, just like most women.....hehehe

Ok so I have to say it was well over 50% of the root ball it was basically a medium size rock wool cube of roots left should have taken a picture. Shit! So still full steam? I mean she looks good today and all but seriously 75% root ball loss? I mean I could just mom the shit out of her and run her next time right?

Medshed thanks for the educating response, I love this group! It is so nice to see a group of grower's with varying levels of experience helping each other. I have read other boards and some are just plain nasty and competitive. Wow the learning curve is large in this field!

We do not have another girl to compare her too, good idea though. Thanks for the warm welcome we are glad to have this forum and specifically the Colorado group.

Hey, how's she doing? I've heard about cutting out some of the root ball when transplanting, but I'm way too chicken to do something like that for the time being (I have only topped once, in fact, because I don't like the idea of tearing the head off...but I'm working up to it).

Hey HB thanks for stopping in on our little thread, lol. Thanks for sharing your experience, it really is exactly what my mom had always taught me about planting house plants, if they a root bound break up the root ball a little. I have been doing that with flowers (think summer flowers, not MMJ) outside when I am planting so will have to apply it to the grow now too.

Oh and I transplanted Mamboe and wifi yesterday into one gallons, took pictures as well. So do you want a grow journal, I can start one, it is not a big deal. Oh and they will be grown outside this summer, I know we are a little late. Should be interesting, we are also running our Jedi (hopefully crossed with Kush) so we will let you know how all go since you got some Jedi beans.

So inquiring minds wanted to know how P-98 bubba is doing, she was in a little shock yesterday, but today looks pretty darn good given her trauma, lol. I watered in some Azos today to help her, I will start a grow log when we drop her i flower for anyone interested in her outcome.

Hey Jus, I hear yeah on topping, it is kind hard to cut them sometimes, but they respond so well that you will get over that issue. IMO
