Wub's Very First Grow.

Yeah, they have grown a lot.. I am sorry, I have been really busy. I will get pics in the morning.

I have given them 2 feedings of the nutes (doing full doses followed by two waterings without nutes). I just switched to 12/12 because they are getting pretty tall (except for the runt) and I didnt want them to be too big for the box. Plus, in all honesty, since this is my first grow and not even the strain I really want, I am read to move past this grow and get to my Northern Lights.

I also built my SCROG'ing screen. It's going to work great. I put it 12" above the top of the pots.

As for the blower, I have it hooked up to my filter. I installed the fan outside. My plants are not even flowering yet, but they stink enough to fill the house, but when I sniff the exhaust of the fan outside, i smell nothing. I think I did a good job with the filter, if not, we will know soon enough. As for the air flow, it moves quite a bit and is doing great. Its not too loud, but it can be heard. It sounds like just the fan is on in an AC window unit.

Even if you are ready to jump into the next grow, stick it out with this one. You will gain more knowledge during the rest of this grow which will make you even more confident next run.
You made the screen, did you install it? You should have the screen at least half full before you flip to 12/12... And 8-10 inches above the growing media is where I thought it should sit.

Those links got my mind turning for my next grow. My mom is interested in partnering with me, so if she decides to join me, I will have the funds to start getting my shit together sooner than I thought.
Great to hear that filter works well. Sometimes, when it's clear outside in the night, and the air is so clean, I could smell my plants even meters away from my home. And sometimes the OPP sit in front of my house to catch speeders. Not having to worry about the smell because you did it right the first time is going to get you a few extra minutes of sleep each night that's for sure...

Well, like I said, I dont mind speeding the process along. mainly to just get some weed in the house so I am not buying anymore. I got some crap tonight that was almost literally stems and seeds. It sucked. I hate the middle man.

MMM, I would say lower that screen to get the higher tops through and ready to go back under. Looking nice btw.
Nah. If your already in flower, just run the course and hopefully you will get a few more tops to make the screen.
LOL, I can't remember the last time I bought weed that had seeds in it.
Looking forward to watching the next 6 weeks or so.
I wish I had had the patience and not cut mine for another week or two. I just keep wondering if I actually missed out on some of that last burst of growth. Point is, I hope you don't chop them early or rush them too much.

I now know what is causes the small problems in my plants. It's the Ph level. It's causes the sides of the plants to shrivel and curl into a straw like shape.

Was your Ph too high or too low? I remember times when I experienced minor curlage so to speak,,, but I never checked nor maintained a Ph level in my grow, so it would be interesting to know.
I am about to plant 8 seeds. How did you germ again? in soil or paper towels or what? I am expecting to drop my 8 FI seeds into some water tomorrow morning at 6 am where they will sit for 12 hours then go into soil 5mm deep covered lightly with soil. I have never germed before so I am nervous.

I germed in a moist paper towel between two ceramic plates stored in a cool, dark place.

I bought a cheap fresh water testing kit for fish and my Ph level was over 7.6. I have tried bringing it down with the droplets and it is still registering over 7.6. It looks like I may just have to get distilled water for the grow. I think my tap, even though its filtered, is just too damned high.

I was given some free General Hydroponics- Flora Nova One-Part Grow (7-4-10) nutrients and was told I could use this during the Veg stage. Will this be ok if I mix like it suggests on the back and water like youre supposed to? Wasnt sure if it would work since I am doing a soil grow.

This is a good top of the line all in one nutrient for soil. clogs alot in hydro systems but you're good to go with this product. Don't really need to add anything else during veg anyway.

GH products and the other name brand nutrients have buffers that make the feed water PH balanced with proper PPM/TDS equations built in the recipe, read the directions and go with the recommendation for the size of plant. The soil you're using also has a buffer in place for pH. Don't worry about it for now is my opinion.

Gee you're tape water is interestingly high, did you check the pH with the GH food in the water? Also, the droplets do not effect the pH of the water it is only for the test. pH up or down is cheap at the hydro shop get a small bottle it'll last a while.

I have not checked it with the nutes because the color of the water is changed with the nutes, so it would be impossible for me to gauge it properly. I do have droplets that raise and lower the Ph and erven after adding 8-10 drops per gallon (it was saying add 2 per test), I gave up so I wouldnt waste the Ph Down solution.

Need a digital ph/ppm meter to tell you exactly where it sits.
edit: I just bought 1 of each for about $10 shiiped, each. 1 Digi ppm and 1 digi tds = $20 canadian shipped.
If it was soo high that you needed to put in soo many drops,,, would that maybe be an indication that the test is faulty? You have a water softener hooked up to that tap? How are you testing again? I mean, strips, drops or ? And your meter only goes to 7.6?

its just a test kit for checking the Ph of a fresh water fish aquarium. It also has drops to raise and lower the Ph. You check the Ph by getting 5ml of water and putting in 3 drops and then checking the color of the water vs. a little tab thast came in the box. It tells you the Ph level. It only goes to 7.6.

I did buy some distilled water and tested it and it came back as 6.0, so I know the testing kits works.

Ahh, I have that for my pool. So your Ph is just very high then... Have you managed to get it into a good range?

Nah, just bought a bunch of Distilled water. I will know if they look better in about an hour and a half. I flushed them out last night with some fresh (distilled) water.

May be early to tell, but I am guessing I have 4 females. It's hard for me to tell, but it looks like my four biggest ones are female.

You can still use the test with discoloured water, or with the feed in and it'll return to one of the comparison colours after you add the little red drops. Try it just to see i bet it'll work, but anyway the 6.0pH water is great so use that until you can get a real bottle of pH down and/or up like this one.

Many companies, pretty much all hydro nutrient manufact have a PH up and down product on the shelf, they are all basically the same thing so name brand doesn't really matter.

Ugh, not having good luck, I think. Just got into the box and my three biggest Sensi all have the little tiny balls forming. I tried taking picks, but my camera is not good enough to get the tiny little nodes. My other three, I cannot tell yet, though I am pretty positive my bagseed is female. So here is my question. I have been in the flowering phase for about 4 days now and I was wondering if I could go back into the veg phase? I really want the other two smaller ones to get bigger before I fully flower them. Would it affect anything?
