So then I guess you agree we should make those who have illegal guns accountable?
what illegal guns?
i didn't read anything in that article about illegal guns....it didn't say they had a sawed off shotgun, or a fully automatic weapon, or a bump stock or other modification... they don't know who did it yet, so they don't even know if they were legal to have a handgun or not....
what they did was obviously illegal...what they did it with, not so much...

Reagan's best friend was called Bonzo...that didn't change him into a Rhodes Scholar.
It goes beyond the guns. The root of the problem is toxic masculinity. Understand that and a lot of the social issues we face in the US become understandable.
If by toxic masculinity you are referring to complete fucking pussies pretending to be hard men and protectors whilst subjugating women and gaslighting them then I would agree, however I don’t know what you mean by toxic masculinity

We have the same shit with racism and misogyny being the structure and wealth of Britain. We don’t have the gunz so we don’t have the fatalities.
So it’s prob the guns, not the tm. That’s everywhere, the guns just actualise the misogyny.

Toxic masculinity appears in many different forms. A few examples include telling boys to “man up” when they feel upset or justifying abusive and inappropriate behavior with the phrase “boys will be boys.” Toxic masculinity can be defined as “the need to aggressively compete and dominate others and encompasses the most problematic proclivities in men. These same male proclivities foster resistance to psychotherapy.”

Traits of toxic or unhealthy masculinity can include:

  • Unconditional physical toughness
  • Physical aggression, fear of emotions
  • Discrimination against people that aren't heterosexual
  • Hyper independence
  • Sexual aggression or violence
  • Anti-feminist behavior
Add to that bullying, objectifying women and for white men with extreme versions of this trait, racism,

Many people who identify as male can feel pressure to embody traits of toxic masculinity, which can lead them to act aggressively or violently towards others and themselves.1

As with all psychology models for behavior there is a spectrum from practically none to hyper aggressive toxic masculinity. It's not unknown in other Western countries everybody has their share. The difference is, every god damned one of the most extremely toxic men in the US own an arsenal.

Guns mixed with roid rage That's what I'm talking about. I'm not talking about being athletes who are super competitive is sports. I'm talking about average joes who are assholes and feel like its their right to put their asshole in other people's faces. And come out shooting when people object.

Thanks for the copy and paste explanation of toxic masculinity, however I was asking for your interpretation

It doesn't seem to me to be celebrated in Europe, UK or Canada like it is in the US.

I was at a recycling center putting cardboard into a bin to be recycled. Some guy drove up in his beater pickup truck, girlfriend in tow. He's hot over something and his SO was obviously being careful with him. He started chucking his boxes of beer bottles in the glass recycling bin. She is looking on quietly The bins are for non-deposit bottles. Oregon has a deposit on beer bottles. A nickel each. Overhearing them, he says he doesn't want to deal with the deposit because it will take too long. So he probably tossed twenty bucks out maybe more. There were a lot of bottles. Each bottle was a loud crash because he was throwing them hard into the bin. There was implicit violence behind each.

The rioters on Jan 6. Almost all male. Angry and self righteous.
The gun nuts posting on RIU who say they need their gun for self defense. Its not like this country has a huge crime problem. We have many times more incidents of men using their guns in anger than in self defense. I think it's a lie that they want those guns for self defense. I think its all about projecting power and dominance.

I grew up with it. My dad, and brothers (and me until I wised up). When we got angry, in our minds, when we got angry, what we did afterward was no longer our fault. Because "they made me mad".

There is this mix of aggression, stress and anger that to me embodies toxic masculinity. Our society tolerates it. Rednecks celebrate it. And guns are in the mix.

No, you pretty much got it, just add lack of empathy, support of bigotry, and a strong sense of entitlement, and you're there...

Except the assumption they are pussies is a false characterization. I've seen Proud Boys in action. Yes, some are pussies but some were scary dudes. Antifa were skinny young men and women who were brave to stand up to them without support from Portland's so-called finest who just stood there behind their armor and shields. Proud Boys and cops all stank of toxic masculinity.
