a general rule of thumb I use is that you are very successful if you pull 1 gram per watt from 60 watts per sq ft of light

Best thing I could tell you is look around here on this site for a grow that is within your tent specs and whatever else you have in mind, such as the wattage of lighting, soil or hydro etc. After you find a grow like that copy it as close as you can. Assuming the grow turned out well.

I'm thinking of starting a grow which only has 5 plants in a 6.5 X 6.5 X 6.5 grow tent

I will be using 4 600 watt lights

what should i do to achieve maximum yield? how much yield can i get

i will be growing purple kush or trainwreck

would i be limiting my yield greatly by only growing 5 plants?
i've got 8 plants under one 600w light have a looking there 4 and a half weeks in to 12/12 and the buds are looking pukka. link in my sig

Everybody always wants to know how much they can expect to get. Considering this is your first grow, you will probably be lucky if any survive. Just letting you know the facts. There are sooooo many variables and then there is Mr. Murphy (Murphy's law) that most often visits your grow, bringing your plants some new friends like spider mites, fungus gnats or powdery mildew. Sometimes he's late to the party and brings mold to your curing bud. Sometimes somebody steals your plants or a deer eats them. Damn, I hate sounding so pessimistic but it's for real; you can't count your doobies before you have them done.
actually, you are being a bit pessimistic. Unless you really fuck up and ignore the obvious signs of distress you should be ok. As for the quantity. You're right! Just too many variables
