Yield Thread

It seems like there are always people on here posting threads to ask how much their plants will yield. This got me thinking, wouldn't it be nice if there was a thread where people could post pictures of their own plants which have yielded 1oz, 2oz, 3oz, etc. This could be used as a reference for people who are wondering about yield to come and compare their plants that they're curious about and get an idea of what they can expect. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures to post to start it off, but I thought if a few people did, this could be helpful, and possibly reduce the number of 'how much will I yield' threads.

The density of the buds makes a huge difference in the final weigh, I have had plants weigh in less than I thought they would, and others that exceeded my predictions

So a pic or even actually looking at the plant does not always provide an accurate account of its final dry weight

Good point on the strain/pheno's, can be a huge difference. Recently pulled this one which had medium-high density and it pulled just shy of 5 zips dry in a 5gal. At the same time I pulled another DIY pheno from seed that looked bigger - mass-wise, yet yielded just shy of 4 zips. Unless it's a clones from a known plant/grow it's almost impossible to calculate yield. Pheno variations of the same strain can have huge variations and as ISK pointed out bud density will determine the final weight. I did a pheno run with Harlequin recently and the variation was as much as 50% in yield between 3 phenos/4 seeds.

Some nice pictures here. I understand that different strains and phenos will have different densities and whatnot, but I find it interesting seeing these differences, and to see, for example, what a one ounce plant of one strain looks like compared to a one ounce plant of a different strain. And while it could be a good reference for people trying to guess their yield, it could also clearly show that there truly are too many variables for anyone to tell them how much their plant will yield. It's just something I was thinking about. Obviously it's not going to be as simple as 'this is exactly what a one ounce plant looks like'. At the end of the day, I think we all know very well that the yield is going to be about a pound.

Almost without exception, the people who ask "How much will I yield?" are 1st time growers, at least Newbies. I think this fact alone plays a huge part in what the yield will be. In other words, experience (or lack of experience) is a big deciding factor in how successful a grow will be.

I used to answer a lot of those "Yield Questions" with something like this:
"First time growers should consider themselves lucky if their plants survive. Other "Newbies" might get 1/4 - 1/2 a gram per watt (especially if they, accidently, do a few things right). An average grower, with average experience, can usually expect 1/2 a gram per watt (more or less). A grower with a lot of good experience (who has done his share of research) and a highly developed technique might expect .75 - .8 grams per watt on a regular basis. Now, an expert grower, who does everything right, can get 1 full gram per watt (maybe even a bit more).".
