It's really not that big of a deal. It's just an excuse for guys to get laid and girls to get shiny things. Why can't that just happen on a Tuesday? Or bank holidays? I read a long time ago that it started because this guy was marrying people, and marriage was outlawed because of some pagan ruler, and he was killed for it. So we're celebrating the idea that people have the right to be married and that it's barbaric to stand in their way, yet we don't let two consenting gay adults do it. So. It's really an arbitrary holiday imo.
