I speak English you, thanks! Do you know how many words are in the English language. This Obama guy thinks theres 60 states (ihttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrsBKGpwi58) in the USA, what a boob.

I don't care what he thinks we should speak, I speak English and thats all my kids need to know too (unless they wanted to learn something else). As long as he keeps his suggestions to himself, than I'm good.

I greatly agree with Obama, our children should learn to speak Spanish and as many languages as they can! I speak Spanish and German, and I have opened many doors that would've been closed to me had I not learned and I only hope my kids have an interest in learning other languages like I did. I do agree however it is very idiotic that he said there were 57 states with one or two left to go to, oh well... all politicians say dumb shit.

this is where i agree with you..kids should learn spanish, they should learn more then one langue period! its a fact that people who speak more then one language have stronger communication, reading, and vocabulary skills.

I have a huge problem with the government telling us our children SHOULD learn Spanish!

I would love to speak Spanish.... in fact I am trying to learn with some language software. Of course I bought the one that teaches you the Spanish they speak in SPAIN.... not the Spanish they speak in Mexico. If I ever go on vacation where the language is Spanish... it will be to Spain... not Mexico! Yes it's very similar... but there are differences.

Personally I don't think it's the government's job to tell us our children should speak another language any more then I think they should be telling us our children should believe in god and go to church! Don't they have anything fucking better to do.... like... oh say.... FIX THE ECONOMY!

This is America! The language IS ENGLISH! There is nothing wrong with being bi-lingual.... but I DO have a problem with the taxpayer expense to print all the forms in all the different languages! IMO... all forms paid for with US CITIZEN tax dollars should be printed in English only!

Obama should have kept his trap shut!

So, if every country was to follow your beliefs, you think it would be for the better? You're kidding right? I want to goto S. Korea, should I have to learn Korean before I go? I want to visit S. Africa, should I learn some tribal languages before I go? What about Germany, Italy, UAE, Brazil, Chile, Tibet, Mongolia... should I learn all of these languages? Or should the gov't spend a little bit of money making pamphlets and forms in a language I can understand so that I feel more welcome? Your statement was very close minded, you should perhaps look deeper than just saying "English only or leave kthx!" Look at the multi-lingual forms as a benefit for all of us. Obama was only encouraging parents to better their children by getting them interested in learning more than just one language... I'm sorry but if you live to learn only one language, you're really dumbing yourself. :roll: Time to smoke!

I'm saying that since they pay for it with their tax dollars why shouldn't they get it in their language? Is that not fair enough for you? You get to read documents in your native language right?

Maybe he is just bringing this out now because he is going to make the spanish speaking mexicans learn english. That way they can't say "what about teaching the english spanish?"

WTF???? ... how is that happening? Immigrants that come here and become citizens through Naturalization are REQUIRED to speak the language! In fact they are required to READ, WRITE and SPEAK ENGLISH! Don't believe me? Here's the link to the US CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION government page that SAYS SO.. Naturalization

Therefore... the only way I can think a US Citizen doesn't speak the language is if they are children born to Border Jumpers whose criminal (yes I think border jumpers are criminals) parents don't know the language so their children aren't taught it. Instead these kids (who SHOULDN'T EVEN BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE) are enrolled in our schools.... and costing us BILLIONS of dollars!

I hate to break it to you, but YOU are not the PUBLIC. The public is everyone, including people who don't speak English. The only way that they are different from you is that they don't speak your language. Does that mean that they're not entitled to the same services as you?

If you want to go live there and be a Citizen of that Country then you are damn skippy I think you better learn the language first! If you are going as a tourist then the hotels and restaurants you visit can probably help you out at their expense... as you are paying for their services.

LOL.. thanks for calling me close minded and dumb. Apparently in your mind only your opinion = intelligence... the rest of us must not have a brain if we don't agree with you. I happen to see it differently... I will never consider the expense of printing forms and providing services paid for by taxpayer dollars in other languages as a "benefit"... and given the change to vote against it ... I will.... every time!

I won't lose a minutes sleep over the fact that this makes you think of me as "dumb".

Personally I don't know one person who is a legal US Citizen that doesn't speak English. I do know a few programmers here from India on work visas... and YES... they speak English.

I'm ok with the fact that you and I disagree on the subject. I don't support illegals being here...and I never will. IMO... these are the people that don't speak the language... and shouldn't be here in the first place!

Tourists only visit hotels and restaurants? Doubt that! We like to visit monuments and government buildings, and the information for these places are paid for by taxes so that people that only speak English can understand what they are looking at and the history behind it. What you're saying would ruin any country's economy in terms of tourism and trade. I'm glad that your one vote doesn't count much. And I did not call you "dumb", I simply stated a fact. By not learning more than one language you are limiting yourself greatly, you honestly disagree with that? :roll:
