Your expertise desired 4 my 1st grow & grow room

Hello everybody!
I started my acct here long ago but then life happened to me but things are kicking off so I would really appreciate your input & opinions.

I tried using a tent but I'm disabled & it didn't work for me. Stable surfaces are best for me, like concrete walls. So the tent will be used to house mothers upstairs & the plant family will be in a 5 X 6 room with 7 ft. ceiling in basement. So far the walls & ceiling have been covered in Mylar. The floor is a white mold resistant paint. Oh, it will be hydroponic.

Now, I have a few great guys helping me with this, 30 year pros but they've only done HPS. I heard that can be expensive. Can I do HPS in winter to make use of the heat & not vent it out? Switch to LED for summer. Will that work?

There is an outlet to outside that can be enlarged for ventilation needs. I'm in an agriculture area with few neighbors. None close.

So if the HPS/LED seasonal thing will work, suggestions on brand of either or both greatly appreciated. Actually all & any help, sharing, opinions are greatly appreciated!

Thank you kindly :weed: my dreams

Hi, sure you can switch lights. I found a tent with the half-circle for the door panels are better than the ones that zip straight up and down into two flaps on the front for people with mobility issues, also they often have access panels on the side that help out too, I use Apollo tents, good luck!

Yes you can leave your space with very little ventilation and still get massive yields. I'm about to crop a lb in a 4×4 space and I'm in a very small apartment with no windows open and the plants are nice and healthy, I even smoke in my apartment doesn't seem to bother them. It certainly won't hurt to crack a window a few times a day and yes the heat from the hps will have a big effect on your heat bill. In the summer it costs $30 extra for each 600w MH running at 18/6 so about $20 for an hps running 12/12, but in the winter theres only about a $20 difference from last year and I'm running two 600's so about $10 extra per light one at 18/6 one at 12/12 during the winter. I myself if I were you I would veg with LEDs but definitely flower with at least 2 600's or 1 1000w HPS for flower. The extra $40 a month will add oz's to each crop even in the summer all I do is leave a window open and have not had heat issues, have the lights on from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM and off during the day. I live on the 45th parallel btw.

Cool! Thank you SOOO much!!! I may want another tent to grow bananas in & other tropicals so it's great to be aware of that option.

Next is light shopping though. I'll try to update with a pic/image too, lol.

The details are most helpful & useful! Especially about the operation amounts.

As far as parallels, lol, I must be a dunce cuz I have no idea. I do know that I am hardiness zone 5b for gardening though, lol. That says very little I know since I was that zone when I was in WI too.

As far as the plants, I'll be getting 4 different clones to try out to see what has the most benefit on my illness so I currently do not know the strains. I tried NYC Diesel & while the younger, healthy me would love it, this older damaged version says no thank you. It's very cerebral so all I do is think about the pain & discomfort that I feel & it demolished my ability to walk! . So I'm hoping it'll be a variety of Indica's but all I know is they will be from consultation with medical growers in Colorado. Fingers crossed!!!

Thank You Again :)

You're not damaged, your body may be but you are not your body, you are pure awareness, the Light, the Eternal beyond this myriad of forms.

Beautiful words & outlook!!! Great for you.

Best yet, science is giving MUCH evidence on how this particular plant can heal my ailments & thus why I'm here. So many studies to read & many teachers to meet yet on my journey.
btw, consuming as the food source it once was utilized as appears to heal so called auto immune diseases. Then again, to be like nature is, throw everything at something & see what happens. So food, smoke, balms, oils, etc as I learn more.

From a person with severe back pain I'd say find you a good indica. GDP, Bubba Kush, Hindu Kush & Death Star were all great for my pain. Just have to find which works best for you. GL growing

If your gonna do hydro you might as well start with something simple. Waterfarms are efficient, easy, and proven to give good yields to those new to hydro... Read this thread..
https://www.rollitup.org/t/pineapple-express-g13-labs-seed-to-harvest.344359/
Using 2, 315 watt cmh, I can show you how to run 2 WFs and get a min of a pound, probably more.. Best thing about this type of grow is that done Scotty's way, you can sit down while you manage your plant.. Especially with a short indica.. Only one of these is a short indica..

Wow, Awesome! This is sooo helpful & I will be sure to share this info with others that are in the same place as you. My brother from another mother is 5 back surgeries in & he is the 1st person to hear the strains you mention so thank you much!

My To Do List for today is now to come here & READ!!!!
You all are some of the most helpful peeps I've come across online in a very long time!
As for hydro experience all I've done is grow peas & greens thus far. It was incredible btw. Having a room of beautiful plants, OMG it was quite incredible! The air in that room was so different, fresh & clean, I rarely wanted to leave there, lol. We're vegans here so now I look around and all I see are areas that I want to convert into hydro grows like the basement shower. I'm thinking vertical in there. The family room is now the fruit, veg & herb room.
But as this was the 1st I've heard of waterfarm, I have so much to learn so many thanks!!!
You all are simply incredible & thanks to everyone!

I would definitely look into tents that beach Walker suggested. I also have mobility issues and a small space that I'm working with & I'll tell you. Getting my self into my area alone is a pain then trying to zipper 2 flaps together vertically then horizontally are a major pain, both figuratively & literally! I often need to have my girlfriend help me. Obviously she does not mind but I like to do things on my own.

I could not agree with you more about being in the space. It is very peaceful, the air is wonderful and the bright lights make me very happy. I hate leaving my little space. It has brought about happiness within that I've not had for a while! Others that know me but dont know I grow have all said the same thing. I have also done the same, I see spaces all over and say to my self, That would be a good space for a beautiful garden!

You have come to the right place! everyone here has been more than happy to answer questions, help and guide in the right direction.

Wish you all the best & happy healthy grows!

OMG, I just NOW saw the 'like' thing, sorry, so very new here but I'll get it, lol.
That is very helpful regarding everything! Yeah, my guy has been a doll & helps without complaint but I fully get wanting this to be a thing one's own! Drumroll please, the best news is I think I've brought him more fully to this side of living! He brought up trying cannabis over the holidays!!! I'm so excited! :eyesmoke:

I'm sorry about your pain but I'm so happy for you that you have this option in life. I'm quite taken by all of the science & journal articles that I've been reading on ClinicalTrials.gov & Cochrane, etc.

I had my guy read your post so he'll just accept that our home is on it's way to becoming a dream Horticultural Conservatory as much as possible! And cuz I thought it was cute & showed that I'm not completely nuts for seeing grow space everywhere, lol. Thank you for your story!

Thank You Kindly for your well wishes!

I run my hps year round. In the winter I discontect my exhaust vent and recirculate the warm air back into the room to help with heating. I still have to run a heater.

In the summer my vent is hooked up to the cold air return for my house so the hot air gets taken out and air conditioned. I wouldn't mind a separate AC just for my room to really control the temps in summer but it works pretty well this way. No matter how hot I has been outside my room NEVER gets over 83-84 degrees, but usually it's about 78 in the summer. Cooling a couple HID lights is easy. It's nt a big challange until your trying to cool multiple thousands of watts.

I also grow hydro. I've been running flood and drain trays for 9 years now, I love them. I grow "single cola" plants using 6 inch pots of stones. I run 3-4 batches at a time perpetually in one 4x4 tray under my 1k hps with a wide reflector.

I decided to grow this way due to simplicity and labor involved. I adjust my res once or twice a week and I change it about every 3-4 weeks to keep the nutrients fresh.

I greatly prefer trimming single cola plants rather then bushes. It's much less work IMHO.

I'm definitely a lazy grower in some ways. I'm not worried about maximizing yield if I can grow a awesome quality product. I try to grow happy healthy plants and I let them give me what they have in return.

The hardest parts of my process are dealing with washing the rocks/rootballs. I hate throwing out rocks in roots so I usually try to clean and reuse as much as I can. I have been brain storming a rock washing device for a while but haven't had the money to start prototyping.

Anyway just thought I'd share. It seems like your off in a good direction.

1st off, I love the ID!
Thank you for sharing this, I think it's going to be most helpful. I anticipate heating in winter to be more of an issue for me vs cooling but time will tell. I think I'm going to start with a single 1000w HPS as I only intend on growing for my needs medically so just a few plants. I might get 2 lights just to be more prepared vs less though.

I almost couldn't find this as I couldn't reply right away upon seeing it. Actually I had my guy read over it & we ventured to my happy room to tweak a few things so thank you much! Your post is already being acted upon. :)

Oiy, no idea what I was thinking to order things near the holidays tho. :wall:

BTW, I wouldn't call you a lazy grower, just chill or laid back. Primarily cuz I did what you are doing with my hydro vegetable grow, lol.

Thanks Again!!!
