I have used led lights about 3 years ago it was out beat by the hps hands down an the mh grew much faster , I would compare it to a t5 bulb . 3 years have passed . my led were 3 watt full spectrum a 300 watt unit purple in color . I was comparing them to hortilux 220 mh bulb and an 120 dollar hortilux hps. both 600 watt side by side . are the newer led lights any better then the 3 year old technology ? thanks for your replies bongsmilie :joint::joint::joint::joint::joint::bigjoint:

the real question here is ....

Compare a 1Kw Gravita to the best 5 watt led light out there ...

...and I feel the Gravita would still win ...hands down

that said there is a second LED option of building your own COB light, that seriously cuts costs

offers very good lumens at least on par with your standard 600w HPS

just in my own 'collection' I have now 5 different light types in my collection

and have yet to build my COB ..waiting for prices to drop ..lol

good luck

vostok ty any body else have an opinion about led ?
Coming from a guy that's harvest hundreds of times with all sorta of HIDs, I gotta say the future is in LED, hands down.
I'm building a LED setup for a linear four ft2 setup, one cob per square foot, and i'm going to use it right next to my 600w mh.
if it works as well as I've seen, i'll build another for my vege room, and then wait for my digi ballast for my hid to shit the bed... inevitably,,

The issue with either LED or HID still seems to be the heat

tho the heat seems to be better managed with the LED's

using pc type heat shields and fans

extracting any excess out, with the general room exhaust

rather than having the extra cost like with the HIDs actually

having to extract that additional bulb heat

LEDs are the future of indoor cannabis but unless you've got bank to drop on a full led setup hids are the most bang for your buck over the short term. The trade off of course is efficiency: you'll pay more monthly to fire your hids plus change out bulbs every so often which adds to the cost. I have some cheap leds that work great to supplement my 600w mh or HPS. I plan to upgrade to kind xl 1000s which should replace all the lights I currently run in the not too distant future but at over $1600 a piece it'll be awhile.... Go large & get good quality LEDs if that's your plan but if it's out of the budget an HPS will do for now & consider using LEDs as side lighting.
