I found and still do that a ritual is important when taking the deep hallucinogens. They tend to set the time aside and elevate what it is you are planning to do. When I have taken large amounts of acid I would do some of the same things in the same way each time.
I would plan the event a week in advance. I usually went to a music store (back when albums made of black plastic were the only way to move new music into one's home) and get a few albums that I speculated might be interesting to explore. I would go to a fine foods store to get tidbits of food, both known and unknown. Then I would go to a hobby store or a toys R us and pick up some trinkets, something one could build with or something delightful or amazing (back when that word actually meant being amazed). Or something that required a bit of skill and competition if I was going to fly with a few friends. All of this was in the interest of extraordinary stimulation for the mind and the fingers and the imagination - something to draw or fingerpaint or model with.
Finally I would spend an entire afternoon the day before in order to make my house spotless. I didn't want to encounter dirt or mess as a distraction. The next morning or afternoon I would lay everything out where it was easily gotten to but not obviously in my way, select the clothes I was going to wear, if I was going to be with others I wanted to wear clothing that would enhance the experience for others - shirts and pants or a hat that made a colorful statement or vibrated in the minds of others. for myself I would wear something comfortable that made me feel confident and at ease.
Then I would hook down what I intended to take and jump into the shower for a long hot (or cold) soak. When I got out and dried off I would usually begin to notice the initial thrumming of chemical anticipation and feel the first soft blowing of that psychic breeze across my face and hair.
What rituals do you folks follow?
