ive only owned one so i wont generalize an opinion about all of them but from what ive read around the net the 500w UV models (what i have) seem hit or miss, mine lasted me 4 months and it was second hand... i know a guy i talk to at the grow shop that has multiple '600w' panels from 2-3years ago still running so perhaps some models are better than others. i had picked blackstar to test out cuz i had heard decent things about them... this was back around september 2012 when i bought mine.Do the blackstar really fail that much? I've got a friend with 4 or 5 for flower and a couple of veg without any problems that I know of. But he only has the 240w versions I think
My kessil 150 magenta still runs almost all the time just as a filler light in corners or under plants...but totally not worth the 200 I paid.this is the first 'new' type of light ive had the opportunity to try out since running a "500w" blackstar LED for 4 months, which did not impress me at all and is now collecting dust in a corner next to a kessil 150.
Any chance you have a write up on where to get the parts and how to assemble them? I've been trying to find that out the last several days. ThanksReally need pics for this journal. Not saying i dont trust the thread starter, but pics would make those numbers alot more real.
My plasma light was DIY, luxim is the supplier of plasma products, so really dont see a comparison between any of these companies, other then name and how the unit is assembled.
Btw, cost about 700 or less to assemble a plasma light.
Hope this thread gets updated with pics !
Plasma love yall!

I would stay away IMO..........I've emailed them a couple times, got a response quickly when asking for bulk order discount(heh); then I asked how a MH plasma could have more red than the competitors if it's just a luxim STA 41.02 module that everyone uses??? SILENCE, nada............lolI saw one yesterday, they are badass, but this little line of text in the catalog worries me: "Recommended for nine months of operation..." And the fixture only has a two year warranty? Are these things not designed for the long haul? Or do they mean the light should be replaced every nine months? The warranty just doesn't seem all that great.
from the way the company dudes explained it to me the 9 month time frame referes the individual bulbs... apprently whatever they did to make it more 'red' than other plasmas (he did explain it but my expertise is with soil and nutrition not with bulbs and wires, in one ear out the other) degrades after about 9-12months and youll still have a bright bulb but the spectrum fades back to more of your standard MH wave lengths, or atleast thats what i remember hearing, dont quote meI saw one yesterday, they are badass, but this little line of text in the catalog worries me: "Recommended for nine months of operation..." 9 months operation on the module makes no sense??really said that??, they can go 20,000 hrs before change-out i thought..........that warranty does suck though.
If you really want a plasma go with industry known brand like Gavita http://growershouse.com/gavita-pro-300-lep-plasma-grow-light
without having seen a lot of plasma components, that looks exactly like whats in my light, much more than the pics luxim has on their site... and that page reports 235w usage, which is what rocket plasma claims... nice observation. They might not be using Luxim's. There are other plasma lamp companies out there. Check out http://topangatech.com/wp-topanga/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Topanga_Datasheet_APL400-3000-Specialty-Lamp.pdf

So basically red rocket is using this plasma lamp that has a 3000-5000hr life!!!! what's the point of this tech then?? it's WORSE than most HID bulbs even fucking worse than a metal halide. Have to replace after each run.......that's crazy.without having seen a lot of plasma components, that looks exactly like whats in my light, much more than the pics luxim has on their site... and that page reports 235w usage, which is what rocket plasma claims... nice observation.
anywho, just checkin back in and though id share some more data, from that past test grow i ended up with 211.2g (7.54oz) from plasma side and 331.6g(11.84oz) from the hps side... plus about 75g of some fluffy nonsense that went right into the extraction tubes, shouldve been a little more pro active with the pruning scissors after the stretch, but not too bad of a yield for 830watts of light
thats about the same about of time I replace my sodium bulbs after use, 3000hrs is 8.3months on 12/12, i bring home a new case of digi bulbs every 9 months. It's not really a step forward but it's not exactly backwards. The biggest thing I was looking at in this light was if it could flower a decent area without needing to be air cooled or air conditioned and I think it can, I've seen some cmh fixtures and they still run just as hot as sodium lights from what I can tell, Id pick up one to try but I've only seem them around 400 watts, can they light up a 4x4 table? So basically red rocket is using this plasma lamp that has a 3000-5000hr life!!!! what's the point of this tech then?? it's WORSE than most HID bulbs even fucking worse than a metal halide. At least luxim plasma modules have a 30,000hr life..........
CMH blows this fixture out of the water with longevity/lumen deprectiation/cost/spectrum/etc. ........this plasma is a step-backwards IMO.
