I've never gone about the thermos soak way. But others have, fade , and 650 baquet both know those tricks.
as for freezing wet trim. I would go about letting that trim dry out as much as possible first before freezing. Freezing will help lock the moisture for sure, but the less you have to lock, the better. Trim usually dries fast anyways. So no biggy.
whether it be trim, or bud, preserving the material as soon as it is dry is key.
Old crusty left out trim, no good. Fresh bagged wet mildew trim, no good.
if you must run fresh wet, of course freeeeeze. I just prefer fresh dry.
quick tips. Use the lid of thermos to help you strain the initial butane oil out. Pour that right into a measuring cup, or Pyrex cup.
let that evap off naturally outdoors. (what kind of weather do you have over there?)
being your first time, add plenty of ethanol, some say 10x as much eth to bho(10ml to 1g). Go with that. You'll figure out a happy medium after a few runs. Key thing here is to make sure you fully dissolve any chunks of bho into the ethanol .
freeze till temps of that Pyrex drop below 0f. And you shoulddddd be about good.
coffee filter onto a nice flat Pyrex baking dish. The more surface area the better.
let that sit in the flowering room for x amount of time. Bam!
my favorite way to do the evap is to place the dish at the exhaust end of a fully enclosed filtered flowering tent. warm weedy air blowing right over
